Eboos - I wasn't referring to your comments - I was referring more to what started the thread...I think you and I are pretty much on the same page...

Well, right here and now is where and when I’ll probably become an official Old Fart, but personally, I’d much rather eat my shake and cheeseburger with some Mexican polka music going in the background than some of the obscene American noise that comes out of today’s speakers under the guise of music.

Randlemcmurphy,

Well said. It's the top of the food chain that has stolen America from everyone. The Revolution was started for less than what is being tolerated today.

Well, I would dislike it when our favorite Dutch restaurant would serve the horrible German "Schlager" music with my dish.
And that has even nothing to do with WWII.
I wouldn`t feel at home there anymore.
What if your Buell suddenly would make the high pitched, screaming, sound of a multicylinder 2-stroker ?
It just doesn`t fit.
Not only the eye, but also the ear, has its wishes.

America has always been about immigrants settling into regional pockets and bringing their culture with them. And it can be wonderful. Take eating in San Francisco, the Richmond for Russian, Mission for Mexican, North Beach for Italian, etc.

And then there is Polish food in Wilwaukee, Barbeque in the South, Tex-Mex in the Southwest, and with all of them you get bits and pieces of the rest of that culture.

And when its time to saddle up and serve your country, both the heros and the cowards and shirkers are spread across the board.

The sons and daughters of the primarily WASP "upper class" of America are some of the worst offenders as far as being willing to serve their country. Look at how few in number the Bushs, Cheneys, and sons and daughters of politicians and power elite are in the service today.

Bring back the draft! I want to see Jenna Bush driving a truck in a fuel convoy in Iraq!

How would you like going to a ball game to hear the stadium music in a FOREIGN language?

Its music now. Next what will it be. The national anthem? Ohh wait thats been done.

I guess our founding fathers were also bigots. Becuase they too think that people should become AMERICANS IF LIVING IN AMERICA.

I'm with Randlepmcmurphy:
"If you want to find something destroying america look at the top of the food chain not the bottom."
The cycle just continues - we didn't accept the Chinese while they were busy building our railroads, etc. Maybe the working Mexicans should be singing the Star Spangled Banner when serving you so you don't feel guilty about their not having any rights?

Bigotry doth truly suck. And, current 'nationalism' (which conveniently ignores historical facts) - it's busy demonizing folks now that we've relied on for quite some time who should have been legally accepted into our society a long time ago.

It seems I can go work an eight hour shift and come back and nothing has been resolved. I work in a sandwich shop that stays open till 3 am to serve the bar crowd. Most of the night we played a little hip hop and rock... but at the end of the night around 2:30ish we put on bluegrass. The drunks for some reason scattered like cockroaches. I for one am glad about the diversity in america.

It would be a damn shame to only be able to sleep with white chics. Bring on some firey latina chicas.

What "rights" exactly do you imagine that the "Mexicans" are lacking?

Ryker,
"Its music now. Next what will it be. The national anthem?"
HUGE leap there. America is the melting pot and we have always enjoyed the music from cultures all over the world. You don't like it? Fine. You are free to avoid it. It is a free country after all. What would you do, organize a nazi/taliban/stalinist/maoist music patrol to set things right? LOL Seriously.

Although I think ryker77's reason to no longer go to that sonic is unsound. I will give him credit for doing something most americans won't do.

Spend their money with a concience(sp).

If americans realized the power of the almighty dollar and spent their money at companies they are willing to support this country would change.

Buy american. Boycott the companies that you don't agree with their policies. For this reason I bought my Buell (plus it is a sweet fin bike) and I no longer shop at walmart.

Ryker77 at least can look down the front of his shorts and see he still has a "pair".
We used to be a nation that spoke softly and carried a big stick, now we speak loudly and carry a tooth pick.
"Oh,don't say that, you might offend them." People do the stupid things they do today because their parents didn't tell them not to because it might hurt their feelings. We don't insist people who come here speak english because it might offend them....................how wrong is this, go to Miami, billboards and street signs in spanish, television interviews with people who have lived here over 20 years and don't speak english, go to a mall and can't find an english speaking clerk. A lot of folks don't see anything wrong with this, but I do.
Immigration, I believe it enriches our society, legally anyways. My wife's family has their name "Tejas" inscribed on the wall at Ellis island, not some dried out footprint in the river bed of the Rio Grande. They came here to be Americans, not Spanish living in America (it didn't cost them their heritage or culture either)
This is only going to stay America if we all demand legal immigration and demand people who live here speak english or get out. It's worked for over two hundred years............do you still have a pair?

I would second this statement. I live in San Diego and the Mexican culture is pervasive. I like the culture alot.

I do not like illegals of any nationality who decide they have a RIGHT to be here and get pissy when you question their being here.

How the hell can one justify that position?

Lets move on, build a wall, and work on the legal immigration issue.

How tough can this be?

Unlike the current crop of mostly ilegal immigrants I have done my best to assimilate.

I am currnetly naked except for a colorfull headdress and some war paint................

I do think that if you do not take the effort to learn our laungage you should be ousted.

It would be incomprehensable for me to move to another country and not learn the laungage. Even when I travel I try to learn a bit of the laungage before leaveing.

If you want to come to the country that my forefathers stole and don't want care to show me the respect of answering a question with something other than "Que"? then you can take your music, family and culture and start walking south.............

i have to agree with sky. i work with a bunch of people that dont speak english. i got in a argument ( if you call yelling and not understanding each other and argument ) with one the other day because i could not explain what i was trying to do, and he kept looking over my shoulder and would not give me space. no i dont see a problem with people wanting to work and all that crap, but i think that they should at least be required to take a english class in order to keep their job.

i must say that i am irritated if i was at sonic, or any place other than a mexican place and i had to listen to that crappy music. that is my opinion, and i am fairly close minded about it, i dont care. as far as it being someone elses land, dont matter now, its ours-we stole it! but that will soon come back to bite us in the ass.

i cant blame mexico for this problem, i blame our country for it. we let this problem get like this, we wanted to be the melting pot, we print the driving test in 10 languages, we give them rights they dont deserve, money they dont deserve, and make it so easy to get what they want. i cant blame them for it, i might do the same if my country sucked ass. but that dont mean i have to like it.

i dont like listening to other languages, i dont like having to press "1" for english, i dont like having to point at work because i cant communicate, i dont like having to drive around a bunch of shady people at home depot everyday. but in all reality, we can only blame ourselves-nones fault but hour own.

If someone came into my shop complaining about the music we listen to, I would tell them they can play whatever music they like where they work, and if they don't like mine they can 'Get Bent'.

Billboards in my neighborhood have been in Spanish for 10+ years, and I have to press a button on the local ATM to get the menu in English. This doesn't bother me, the local businesses know the local demographic and cater to them. This also means I can find several varieties of Green Chili and Tortillas at the local grocery store, which is a good thing. You'd be hard pressed to find any grits in these parts, though!

I was in line at local store, and the couple in front of me were speaking Vietnamese, and the couple behind me were speaking Spanish. I thought spoke volumes about the diversity of my hometown.

That said, if I moved to France, I would learn French.
