Powder coating is dirt cheap. For a given standard color, they will hang up your parts on the conveyor and bake it with everyone elses stuff. I've had bicycle parts anodized with other people's stuff before for free just because they liked my enthusiasm for customizing. Most shops are run by people who understand that and are enthusiastic about helping us. It's a guy thing!

Try some of the mail order places out of California. I'll try to find some web sites. I had looked in to this, but decided to do it locally.

Keep looking Adam, that's the most ridiculous price I have ever heard, unless you specified a type of white that will only be used by YOU. A friend of mine had his Honda wheels, frame and swingarm powder re-coated black for $150. That included the parts being high temp and chemical stripped and cleaned first.

I have to agree with X1G on this one....Tail section and swingarm $25 each maybe alittle more if they prep with abrasives or something. I build packaging machinery for a living and deal with a powdercoater a mile from my house quite often. Here in Kansas City. "rogersmsginc.com" phone 913-829-3363.....If you want, you may have noticed my tail section is not on my bike at the moment I could take that by and get a firm quote for you....white wasn't it? any specific paint code?
I took my frame to them when I was looking for cheaper alternatives to chrome, and with all the appendages (headlight brackets, kickstand, etc. etc.) they told me $175 for all 11 pieces. I went with chrome for $300. THAT IS STILL $100 DOLLARS LESS THAN WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Adam,
Give these folks a call, they are the ones that did/do the factory powder coating for Buell.
They are the ones that did my primary and cam covers to match my blue paint.
They do nice work and fast too!

Just for reference, the Nuke Blue is a "stock" color. Unfortunately, Blue Streak is not.
They had a hell of a time coming up with a match.
They finally wound up doing a silver undercoat with two layers of "dark candy blue".
They came real close but it was quite $$$$ when all was done due to having to shoot and bake the parts 3 times..

Holy crap thanks for all the responses. I will definetly look into possibly shipping my parts elsewhere to get them painted. Especially if it is cheaper for them to paint it than $400. If i can get them both Coated.

By the way if anyone can find the code for the Artic White that Buell uses on the White Lightning please let me know. Since that is the paint i want. it would be nice to match my frame and plastic parts.

Shazam, thanks for looking for me, let me know what you find out.

Thanks again everyone.

Classic Coatings are the stock purveyors of nuke blue, and I've had them do several parts for me. Prices seem a tad high, And they are far away from me, but I used thtem becuase I wanted a perfect nuke blue color match. My biggest problem with them is that their masking jobs have SUCKED. I've given them very explicit instructions, with annotated photos, on which places to coat and not, and got marginal work each time. After they botched a couple parts for me, I told them to CHARGE ME WHAT IT TAKES TO DO A QUALITY MASKING JOB, and still got a bad job. If you don't have any masking, they're OK, but if you do, beware.

Just my experiences, YMMV.

Allied powder coating in Houston charged me $185 for my swingarm and pulley. That included custom paint, baking the old coating off, bead blasting, two coats of yellow, and two coats of clear. Their mask job sucked too, but after taking it back twice, they finally got it right.

Go to a local shop with your chin fairing and ask to see the color chart. You'll be able to find a pretty good match.

Just for everyones information, Traffic Yellow is as close as you're going to get to Reactor Yellow. See my profile.

ok i thought i would post a final decision. I found a place in Mt Morris, about 3 miles from me. To powdercoat the rear tail, and swingarm will cost about (drum roll) $125.00 IS THAT A DEAL OR WHAT??!!!????? so looks like i won't have to ship it out of state, or even go past Flint. When i get it done (mid Jan. after the holidays) i will post a pic to show it off or complain...

Adam

p.s. a friend of mine is also painting some plastic parts to match the rest.. The rear mud thingy over the rear wheel... and the belt gaurds will all be painted White... so should look good.
