I don't really read ya there. I see at least 10 lbs of crap I could take off the XB9S or R. Sure they're not tourers, but with lower pegs, higher bars and more fuel capacity I can see a tourer coming out of a reworked XB type bike...which is supposedly on it's way.

I like naked bikes...and it's not 'cause bodywork is expensive to replace. It's because a fairing is only important for higher terminal velocities. An S1 has plenty of wind protection above 100 mph IMO. I see bodywork as unneccessary. I remove everything from my car and bike that I feel is not a neccessidy. That's just my style. My point is just that a there's a big difference between a standard and a streetfighter. A streetfighter is raw and purposeful. A standard is softer and far more refined. A streetfigher works fine as an only bike...as long as you don't mind carrying a bag on your back every now and then.

If you really narrow it down...I don't think any stock offering from any manufacturer is a true streetfighter.

This is what I feel is an extreme example...a totally stripped bike with major mods...and all of them geared towards less weight and better performance.

Sport;

The limited version conceded a span of 200 bikes. All of which were based on the Mille-R, which means Ohlins-suspension and lots of CF bodywork. -as far as there's a lot of bodywork on the Tuono-
I also *think* the tank is aluminium, and those special LIGHT rims.

The new Tuono is a production-version based on the standard Mille, so less exotic materials there. Which also accounts for less expensive damage should You bin it.
It has standard Mille suspension.

It's not as with the first MV F4 version Oro, which I believe You were invited to buy?
I think Aprilia claims all of the 200 first Tuonos are sold, but I'm willing to call them for You. ;)

It all amounts up to the fact that most riders will probably have just as much fun with a standard Tuono as they would with the limited version.
As long as they're not sensitive to the fact the first one is a very special bike.

Rick;

I agree with You the first streetfighters probably started out as bare, once crashed Superbikes.
Yet a lot of them evolved into very special -read costly- one-offs, as in the bike You posted above...

You wouldn't wanna crash that one, would You? Neither does the owner; have a look at those tyres. Those don't look like they're on a "totally stripped raw and purposeful bike".

Jilles.

Here's a set of tires that appear to be pretty well scrubed in:

Yeah...I hear you guys there. That Duc's a fine bike, but it's obviously not ridden to it's potential. I liken that to all the people owning high end high performance cars that drive around like old ladies. A true waste, that is. My bike's tires are taken to the edge...hell, it even has some sidewall scuffing

If'n I had the $$ to build a bike like that Duc, I'd take the risk of layin' her down, too...no doubt about that. I don't see the point of spending that much $$ and not properly exploiting the machine's potential.

Lately I've been taking note of chicken strips. I've found it's not uncommon for bikes devoid of strips to have noticeable scars. It makes me feel better about mine.

That Bandit has one sexy tail section!

Just for badness, and if I could figure out how to do it, I'd post ya'll a photy of the GSX-R 7/11 Streetfighter... 440 lbs fully fueled.

An '88 and still gets respect on the street and cred in the Sunday morning parking lot. Styling's a little dated, but the Yoshed 1100's 146 hp footprint is still pretty contemporary. Speed and hard riding never go out of fashion, eh?...

Poser boyz on pretty new bikes beware.

That's a big twin built by a guy named Patrick Hook. It has 4 valve heads, oversquare boreXstroke, an extremely small aftermarket 4 speed tranny, so on and and so forth. He hand made the chassis, tank, "bodywork", etc...and added GP bike forks, brakes, and wheels. It has two huge 2 barrel carbs...I forget what type. Anyway it was built solely for the UK paved hillclimb races...and was doing so good that they changed the rulebook to keep him out! Apparently people didn't like being beat by a Hardley. People actually laughed at him when he first campaigned the bike. They weren't laughing later.

The picture sucks...there's a lot you can't see...but I don't have any photo editing software on this computer.

That bike above is wild.

Rick;

I don't think You'll have to buy a monster for You to be able to "exploit that potential".

Perhaps it would be better to use a Buell for that matter...
Ride a monster...it's a nice bike, but I wouldn't describe it as the *ultimate* cornering machine...

Redstripe...I was talking about that particular Monster...and how it has untold thousands in it, and judging by the tires that it is not ridden very hard. I've seen pics of the guy at a racetrack and it looks like he tiptoes around...a real waste.

I have quite a bit of cash in my own mount...especially for a poor SOB...and I still ride it like I stole it.

I love Monsters. My 2nd favorite bike EVER besides S1's. There's just so much more I like about Buells.

We are in agreement.

What's the frame on that!?

Kinda looks like a Nico Bakker frame. Laverda used that for their 650-668-750 & formula types later-on...

Honda hawk also springs in mind, or NTV or Revere. What's it called over there?

The blurb in my book says

Frame: One-off by Owner/Welbro Engineering, 7020 aluminum twin-beam style swingarm, heavily modified Suzuki 1100 suspension.

Rick A,

You're so right.

Fellow told me he was thinking of buying a Ducati Monster 900. Then he eye-balled my '97 S1 and realised it was far more monstrous. Think he's looking for an X1 now....

Nice wheelstand Redstripe. Good form.

Haha; nothing too drastic about that first pic!

This however, is the one...
Apparently it'll incorporate a Folan? engine of 1000cc, which should be good for 120 BHp, and reducing the weight by "lacking" a frame, as is the concept model, to 150 kg.

Very special indeedy!
