there is a youngster here at work who says he was told by a friend of his.......that Buell is going out of business, gone bankrupt

I squished it here and now. Like, why would a company file for bankruptcy just as it releases its newest ( and maybe hottest ) model?

don ya jus luv roomurs? (rhetorical question)

Ezblast maybe I'm wrong but I'd say Buell is a separate company from HD. It is HD owned but I'll bet financially Buell has got to stand on its own two legs.Separate from HD.Buell going Bankrupt Ha Ha!!! HD would probably squash that end of its Biz before it ever got within a scratch of your butt before it would come to that.

Buell made money for HD for the first time last year, I don't think they are in any kind of trouble.

They have "let go" of some "dead wood" in terms of dealers but I think that the situation will improve as more buells are sold.

Where was your guy at work during the REAL hard times?

: )

Inaccurate information.

Buell has just done something quite extraordinary, as Jose' said, and turned a profit.

$$$, although a major accomplishment, is but one of the benefits Buell brings to Harley-Davidson, arguably one of the "cash richest" of American Corporations.

Harley-Davidson did announce that their profits fell 4 percent in the second quarter. That's enough to get some people to jump out of tall buildings. But bankrupt? Far from it.

Will there be a point in the future that Buell saves Harley-Davidson? Inconceivable now, I know.

There was a guy at the office the other day, name Pollo Poco, who said the sky was falling. I looked out to see and was unable to confirm his alarm, but I'm pretty sure I caught a glimpse of Court flying past.

>>>Inconceivable now, I know.

Less so than you may think, in a way you may never imagine.

Do an experiment and get back to me.

Take a baseball and throw a perfect pitch. When the pitch is halfway to the plate, imagine the batter just walked away and a shorter guy stepped up.

Now, here's the experiment.

Change your pitch.

If you look at Buell and see motorcycles, step back. That's like pressing the paper to your nose to read it. I suspect you have read the reviews about Erik Buell having had much less involvement in the Ulysses project. He's been working 75 hours a week, take 4 out for the guitar he just patented.

What ya think that boys up to?

Court,
Dang, you know how to keep a guy up at night, don't you?

My guesses:
1) A "clean sheet of paper" 45 degree, air cooled, pushrod V-twin engine design for Buell AND Harley
2) The frame design to replace the XB platform
3) Bold new colors for the 07 Buells

And to think we've probably got ~350 days to think about it before we'll know the answer...

I thought they were supposed to be out of business about 3 years ago? I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
As I have been saying, the future has never been brighter for Buell and Buell riders!

ROTFL! There's probably a market for that. I mean, we've already got a band that does bluegrass versions of AC/DC...

I'd be interested to see Erik work on a power plant not simply re-purposed for buell's but designed from the ground up for buell.

many parts of the buell platform seem like next step technology, except that core powerplant - its very "un-buell" to me. I gather its reliable, simple, and proven, but it doesn't impress me as being innovative in a way much of the rest of the platform is.

not that I know anything about buell's - Im a brand new buell customer, which is why i've been spending like 20 hours a day on this site :P

btw - tx for all the great information - its much appreciated, and has been a big factor in my decision to actually try one of these bikes out.

I'm thinkin the Buell-source contributions to HD may go beyond motorpickles -- but, hey, since I havn't read it on the internet, it can't be true, yes?

Court, that would be cool. My dad was a construction equipment operator (draglines mostly) so I always loved this stuff.

As for contributions to the mothership, I think if you compare a 2000 sportster to a 2006 sportster, the difference is staggering. Even if Erik did not have a hand in the chassis (which I strongly doubt) the engine and tranny changes for the sporty are amazing, not just in terms of performance, but reliability.

I look forward to the next Cycleworld cruiser shootout... where the Harley (well, the sportster) is the pinnacle of refinement and precision relative to the rough and less refined Japanese competition.

(but don't get me wrong, the only cruiser I want was made around 1969... it was the sportster precursor, the model K maybe?)
