The slowed videos are interesting, but if you right click on the video at Buell before it finishes, you can go forward or backward one frame at a time. Nothing's really clear even when doing that, but man, it sure seems like you can ALMOST see the rear of the bike in one frame.

Of course, if this was TV instead of real life, we could stop the video, zoom up on the window on one of the cars at the start of the video, find the reflection of the bike, click "enhance" and we'd be able to read the serial number off of this new Buell....

So what you're saying is you want a copy of the uncut raw footage in MPEG to view?

Hey Court, don't let the "cat" out of the bag yet. Did you get the email with the recon mission and what was seen? After the release, only you can begin the razzing......then again, maybe you can begin the congrats!

That stretch at the end, with the trees overhanging the the road? Reminds me of some of the local roads up here in Maine. Now if I could just get the moose, deer, bears, racoons, beavers, and the like out of my mind...

Sampled a dead skunk from 6 feet away at 40 MPH yesterday, that's refreshing. I wonder what Louden Wainright III is doing now. :>; )

I'm actually enjoying this quite a bit. I'm heading back to the middle east in about a month, (been home for a year today) and when I return home again in August of '06, I will be looking for a new motorcycle, (selling my Suzuki GS500F before I deploy). So it looks like I may be able to get a leftover '05 or a new '06, and either way, it's a win/win situation. And I don't have to get all stressed about what's coming out and whether I should wait to buy or buy now! Woohoo!

I was thinking (against my doctors orders) and decided: Y'know how popular the Kawasaki KLR 650 is right? Just imagine a Blast engine based 650 Buell dual sport to compete in that market.

Lets get real here the Blast engine is way to weak to use in a dual sport. Buell won't come close to Suzuki Kawi or Honda unless they go with a very LIGHT WEIGHT Rotax type motor. Dual sports need to be light if you decide you want to take it to the dirt. Honda had the XR 400 which weighs in at 247 dry and is bullet proof reliable and air cooled. Whats a Blast weigh? The DRZ 400 weighs in the 270s IIRC. That is one heck of a bike as well. How is Buell gonna compete with that? Myself I am going to find a used XR400. I don't think ATK makes anything as light as the XR. My old YZ 250 weighs 238 lbs and that is a two stroke mxer. The XR is a dual sport which puts more emphasis on the dirt. I have a feeling a Buell daul sport will be more street orientated.I hope Buell shocks the world and out does the competition and gives us a very light weight high flying dirt bike with lights and turn signals.

Regards

Mike

Isn't it the Vstrom that is more street than dirt? If I'm right, maybe your making an unfair comparison, maybe it'll be more like that...

I really like the KLR and hope Buell will change my mind on what to buy.

The KLR is a wonderful piece of machinery.

I've said it before, I'll say it again....you'll seldom see anyone circle the globe on a motorcycle OTHER than the KLR or BMW GS.

I bought a PERFECT KLR for $3,500 and it's the cat's meow in NYC.

The CityX, right out of the box at $8,500, also fits that roll in the "new bike" category.

I have high hopes for the new Buells being introduced. Let's be a tad careful about criticizing them, before we even know what they are, lest we be seen as too quick on the trigger.

: )

Name another brand where owners are 2nd guessing designers based on what "they think it'll be".

We are too funny.

Or the couple who did it on a HD bagger...or the fella who lost both legs & did it a couple times on a sporty or the guy who used an R1..etc etc.

There are others, hence the word "seldom". The complete list can be found on the Iron Butt website.

I've done more long distance, generally about anything over 250 miles, than I care to remember on a Sportster and it's pure torture.

That's because you kept the bike stock. I did several 600+ mile days on my '86 1100, but it had a different seat, bars and highway pegs. It wasn't as comfortable as my later FLHS, but it was far from being torture.
If you want to discuss torture, I suggest riding from Fayetteville, NC straight through to Boston on a '98 S3-T with the original seat. I had shooting pains running down the inside of my legs that were incredible. When I got the new seat in '99, I felt like kissing whoever was responsible for its design.

Crusty, I feel ya, I rode from Virginia Beach, to Boston and back on my X1...though y legs were good, it was my butt that took the beating....

Time for a new seat JUST for long distance riding, as I find the regular seat good for about 2-3 hours on the highway....

I just put 4132 miles on my Sporty in 6 days going to Hyder, Alaska and back. A brand spankin' new Sundowner Touring seat made it easy on the keister.

"...it's the cat's meow in NYC.

I was surprised on a recent visit to Manhatten, how popular motorcycles were downtown. Seems like there's one chained up on every corner. I even saw an MV Agusta chained to a telephone pole. NYC seems like the perfect place for a City-X.

Not a bad place for an M2, either.

Maybe there are two?

Yeah, but are they both going to be Adventure Tourers? Or could one of them be something like an XB replacement for the M2? I really want a Sport Tourer, but I don't believe we'll see one. I'd be happy with an M2 equivalent, so long as I could put hard bags on it. Otherwise, it's going to be embarrassing riding a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 with a Pegasus tattoo on my arm.

Personally, I think the 9sx *is* the replacement for the M2.

I think when they got down to it, they decided that the $700 difference in list price was not worth ruining the suspension over.

There are two.

The Sportster, lord knows I've had more than my share, is a great motorcycle and a classic. It is no more a touring bike than the Honda XR80. Spare me the anecdotal tales about the....yes, I know you can "do things" to them but you basically mask the pain.

Perhaps a DS bike based on the military Harley?
I saw one in the USMC museum in San Diego, and I took a liking to it right away.
I'm thinking about DS'ing my S2, I like the engine and think it would be an ideal DS powerplant, but the problem I have is trying to find a 19" front wheel so I could concievably fit Anakees (or Karoos/TKC80's if I'm feeling really crazy). If Buell wants to do the hard work for, that'd be good. I will volunteer to try it out for them, a run to Dawson, Yukon over the Top of the World Highway would be a fine test of the machines abilities.

BMW used to have the large displacement DS field all to themselves. Actually I think the 1200GS is a reaction not to anything Buell may or may not release but the KTM 950 Adventure, which is an incredible bike. Go ride one and you'll be hooked.
