Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, you are free at last! I quit a job after 23 years that was killing me. Took a year's sabatical. Found a different job that I enjoy at 1/3 the salary. Haven't looked back. Good on ya Char. Life's too short to suffer fools or die on the job from stress and BS. |

Char, Some times you just have to say "Enough is enough!". Your sanity is much more important than any job. Good luck with the hunt for a more suitable position. BTW, hows the M2 running? Did you ever get it sorted out? My offer is still open. Brad |

Hey, It is a new day... and there is ice covered with snow on the road... which means i am on the internet. What happened? Well, i left my job at the last tribe because my boss was showing up half time, getting paid twice as much as me and i was doing all the work (very very well i might add) and he was taking all the credit. i was so angry i had to leave cause that is no way to live... so last week of april i moved back to madison and was living with my friend rich, harley guy with a great heart who rode up to labrador and newfoundland last year on his ktm with my friend tim... now my last day of work in april was my interview at the bayfield co tribe... i knew i didn't really want the job because it didn't pay enough for the responsibilities i would have, but bills were due and i figured i would give it a shot, the worst that could happen was i could end back up in madison... WELL THE ABSOLUTE WORST HAPPENED REALLY JUST BEYOND BELIEF WHAT I WENT THROUGH UP THERE... as you all know i kind of dropped off the face of the badweb world. i started the environmental program manager job on may 21st. i had checked out SIX references on the situation... four federal (epa and bia) one inter-tribal and one former employee... they all said it would be a good experience and they would treat me well etc... WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the lady who had my job before me got fired for being a psychotic drug addict who refused help who also got six previous people to quit because she was such a c***. for three months i worked overtime, losing sleep busting my behind cleaning up her mess... then i got a mediocre review and no raise... i was steamed. so i decided, alrighty then, i will only work when i want at 90% if that is the support i get. ok so i toddle along.... november i go to tribal council, they really should call it THE INQUISITION. there are a few ladies on the council that hate white people, and i am "white" i freakin hate that word... i am a german-norweigan american and i am proud of my heritage as it is mine and i know some things about it... my great grandmother came over on a boat when she was 18 through ellis island... and i am a daughter of the american revolution we have a long line of physicians who served in the revolution and the civil war... so i am proud of who i am... well these witches grilled me at the council about irrelevant stuff... then the c*** showed up yellling things and approached me as i left and started yelling at the council and had to be physically removed from the room i have it on videotape which would be a good late night party popcorn... soda.... na beer. in fact when i get my new place i will be having a THANK GOD I QUIT MY JOB PARTY and play the tape for all my friends here... |

so i asked for an escort from the room and went immediately to the tribal police station for an escort of the reservation... the entire thing is broadcast on the tribal cable station so they were watching and said, she is still at the bingo hall if you go now you should be ok... soooooooooooooooo i almost quit in november... then i thought these winches can't have my power or my position it is mine and i earned it... I AM GOING TO GO DOWN FIGHTING!!! i got a temporary restraining order on the c*** and then had a court date set for a two year restraining order. the tribal court turned it down because the chief judge grew up with this idiot lady and he said she is a nice person who had an isolated incident... WRONG ANSWER!!!! then there is the consultant... let us call him the d*** he told me that the crazy lady's husband has shown up at work with a gun before... so i was carrying around a law enforcement radio on my person for a month thinking i might get shot at work... the police chief there is a sweetheart who assured me nothing would happen and supported me, so did my boss and personel... so i stayed and i toodled along...not the answer. but i was working on securing money to continue work on the ashland superfund site and i was into it... well six months later we get an offer from epa at a meeting attended by the chairman, the vice chairman, the consultant and the regional administrator of the epa. i couldn't be ther because i was in minneapolis for 40 hour OSHA training that i needed to get on the superfund site. if you know anything about osha certification there are strict standards you have to pass and you can't just leave to get on a conference call. so i got my cert... although i don't really like wearting an scba, especially when they do the supplied air trick of turning the hose off and you need to flip the thing to a escape pack... anyho... i got back to the office on february 15th. |

so another grant i had applied for $200,000 to do on reservation contamination assessments and redevelopment... this would take our operating budget from $300,000 a year to $500,000 a year THAT IS A HALF A MILLION THE TRIBE WOULD HAVE COMING IN BECAUSE I WAS AN EXCELLENT EMPLOYEE AND COULD MANAGE IT WITHIN FEDERAL GUIDLINES!!! ya think i might get some respect.... but noooooooooooooooooooo !!! the consultant who worked ther for 5 years and had been holding the department together for the last two told me the superfund money should be used all for off res ashland work and that the regional administrator and the chairman had decided that and there was nothing i could do... THIS BROKE MY HEART!!! i gave him both grants to revise and was so disgusted... this was february 16th... by the 18th i had to leave work early and go home and cry all day i ended up for three weeks trying to stick out the job and look for other work and i was miserable, crying every day and barely functioning... but i go to AA meetings and these wonderful people get me through it... i am 11 years sober and i hang on to that cause it is imperative to my health... anyhow... i talk to my boss, i talk to the vice chair about how this money has to be used on reservation because there are PROBLEMS on the reservation... the vice chair says "that was not what was decided at the meeting with the ra"... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!! i realized the one person "helping" me for 9 months is a d*** with no integrity who lies and steals and cheats to make money... WOW !!!! that changes things. so i was to meet with my boss to discuss this on february 25th... so i pop my head in to the chairmans office first thing the 25th to talk about this i am into informing my superiors of where the programs are and asking for help when i need it... the guy goes ballistic and chews me out... i packed my boxes and wrote my resignation and then i left the res... to hang out with a friend. i had an appointment at 2 pm with my boss. i ended up flipping a coin heads: i go and tails: i turn in my resignation get the heck out of there and DO NOT LOOK BACK !!! it came up heads. the tribal manager and the vice chair convince me to stay after two hours and i am off to chicago epa for an annual conference on the 28th of february... the epa people are excellent... beg me not to leave because they don't want to have to deal with a c*** or a d*** in my position... they had to deal with the c*** for twelve years. we go to second city eat some authentic italian cuisine and have a good time... i fly back north on march 4. i lasted for another week phew... but my depression and grief is increasing to insurmountable porportions... so i quit. I QUIT on wednesday the 16th and packed my stuff and drove to madison... i am so happy driving to madison, speeding singing rock songs that i can't imagine ever being not happy. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!!! I AM HOME !!! the buell is still in bayfield county and i don't care because i never have to go to the TRIBAL INQUISITION again or deal with the c*** or the d*** (Blake don't erase my posts because i tried to make it as PG as i could considering the circumstances) Charlotte aka. Char, Don't you dare beat yourself up about other peoples stupidity/incompetance! Sorry you lost your job, NOT sorry you lost (some) of the people you worked with. That is no way to live. Your qualifications will land you another position with little difficulty. (BTW, LOTS of EPA/Superfund stuff in WNY area, hint, hint, - let me know if I can help.) Oz |

Even if there are no listed jobs for power plant chemists, send in a resume to the companies and make sure you use the exact job title you are applying for. Good Luck |

Lot's of jobs in the petro-chem patch in the Houston area. That is, if you like rain, heat, humidity, and hurricanes. But we only have a few nights where it gets below freezing each year. Snows here about once every 10 years or so. Sunny and 75 here now..............
