Can anyone help me out? Have an 01 X1. Turn on ignition, get tail light, Odometer lights up, turn signals, brake lights work. Headlight, Fuel light, and neutral don't light up. Push starter, nothing! No drain, no click, nothing. Took battery in and had a drain check, battery is up and takes a drain. Good Battery. Checked all fuses under the seat. All Good. Why won't this Beast start? Is there something I'm missing or not checking? Could use some help! Thanks.

Hmmm. The starter is run by a relay, not a fuse. If that relay gets energized, but does not do what it is supposed to do and throw the switch, that could explain the "won't start" part. Not sure what else is driven off that relay, maybe headlights.

I am pretty sure the tail light goes off the accessory fuse, so if it is dead, then something else is happening.

Pull the accessory fuse (or whatever one your schematic says runs the tail lights) and power up the bike and slap a volt meter across the two fuse terminals on the bike. If you don't read battery voltage (12V to 13.8V), it's a problem somewhere long before it gets to the fuse.

Sounds like the key switch is working in Park position but not in Run position. Pull the connector behind the flyscreen to the key, and connect the 3 terminals in the bike side connector together - one red wire is the incoming power from the circuit breaker, one goes out to the ACC fuse (odometer, turn signals, tail light, position lamp), and the other wire goes to everything else (headlamp fuse, instrument fuse, ignition fuse). The key in Park position powers the ACC fuse only, in Run position the switch supplies both the ACC wire and the ignition/headlamp. The oil pressure and neutral indicators should come on - they go through the Instruments fuse directly from the key switch - so the problem is not a relay or fuse problem.
Good Luck!

Thanks 99x1,
When I get home from work tonight I'll investigate the switch. That makes sense. Come to think of it , I remember the switch rotating within it's bezel a few months back, maybe something got "tweeked"!

Sure sounds like the switch to me too.

Anyone know what one of those go for these days? I am in need of one.
