​Dear all, I'm currently building a short S2 tail section for a new S2 project. I shortened a defective S2 tail section by 8cm and built a positive model. I'm currently making a 4-part negative mold out of it. If everything works well, I want to laminate it into a 1-seater S2 rear section made of epoxy GRP. I have a spare set of S2 side plates and could have them milled for use as a RSS style 1 seater. However, it would be easier if I could get a set of used or new RSS sideplates somewhere. | ||

Watching closely!! I would love to have a single seat tail on one of my S2s. years ago when I was making the upgraded full side plates for the S2 to use the newer kick stand I had a shorty set made for one of my bikes. the other S2 had the conversion rack to carry S3T bags so I had to leave that a full length set. Have you thought about custom seat pan, and a release mechanism for the seat as you move through a single seat set plan? is this something you can make available to others?   | ||

It is certainly possible to mold several rear parts. That depends a bit on how stable the 4-part form is. I still need to build an insert for the taillight and build a mold for it. Then the seat pan and a closure are still missing. That's still a lot of work. I hope the work is worth it and it looks good afterwards. My new S2 project will be a restomod. I get an S2 frame and the parts. So no original S2 is dismantled but a new one is built from leftover parts. | ||

If the first prototype is finished and the quality is decent, there is no reason not to build a few rear parts. The side plates of your red S2 are also great. | ||

Looks like a great project! Many years ago a friend did one of the first RSS style conversions for the S2. We pulled a mould off it and have done several since. I have the mold. We used S2 seat pans and the front half of the foam, with some added fiberglas, foam and a new covering. I've also got a set of Jolly's single seat side plates I might be interested in selling. I've got two single seat S2's and I don't see another in my future. | ||

Jolly, those plates look great. The original plates were the only part of the S2 that really stuck out to me. Aside from the original plates the S2s are such good looking bikes. Can't wait to see he single seat tail. I think from the other project bike someone recently posted on here(either an S1, or an M2 with an S1, and he just mounted an S3 fairing to it, I think the proportions came out fantastic and it looks really good. I'm sure your S2 will look just as good. | ||

Hello Kmbuell, you may want to sell the 1 seater side panels. What price did you imagine? I currently have a set of side plates that were already shortened by the previous owner. I have the Jolly side stand conversion and would like to adapt it to the shortened S2 plates. I want the slightly sportier footrest position of the RS1200 and then re-drill the footrest mounting points. The front area of the footrest plates is removed and a friend then mills the plate surface for me in RS1200 style. | ||

I got a few suggestions and am now trying things out a bit. As a mold making resin, I colored the epoxy resin with fiberglass powder and thixotroped it with Aerosil. I really like the result mixed in this way and I laminated the third and somehow most difficult part of the negative form. All that's missing now is the middle section. I hope I can do this over the course of the week and then finally be able to use the negative mold to laminate the tail section.  | ||

I have now finished the form. It turned out really well for my first attempt. Only two large air pockets and a few pittings. This is quickly fixed with 2K epoxy glue and a bit of sanding. Unfortunately I will be on Monday for 6 weeks from April 2nd. I converted the S2 footrest plates for single-seater use and a slightly sportier stance. The areas crossed out with Edding are still milled over.   | ||

The powerful OEM instrument console is replaced by a striking tachometer with shift light and an integrated digital speedometer. In addition, there is only a small cluster of indicator lights. At first I wanted to use a sinfully expensive Motogadget Chronoclassic, but then I found a brand new SPA Design tachometer rebranded by Revtech.  | ||

Great project so far, very interested in seeing how that tail turns out. Most of what you've done so far is a bit over my head so I haven't had many questions/comments to make, just watching the progress. I'd be very interested to see some detailed information about the speedo/tach install. For a while I've thought it'd be nice to clean up the front of my S1 with a smaller display and get rid of the flyscreen, but most of the units you see are set up for bikes that are already digital and just have a million wires coming out of the back. I haven't see too many simpler setups for analog bikes. I'm sure they're out there, I assume you just need to replace the original speedo sensor with a magnetic one and a magnet attached to the wheel/rotor. | ||

I need a sensor for the selected tachometer/speedometer. Either, as you say, stick a magnet to the pulley and place the pickup or an adapter for the speedometer cable connection. There are receivers that are screwed into the original shaft connection and output a signal. Then the speedometer cable is omitted. I want to use a late 2000 M2 engine. | ||

The footrest plates are shortened and milled based on the RSS1200 plates.  The roughened lower level has now been blasted with glass beads and the bars are being polished. The plastic bearing bushings of the rickety shift lever, shift sickle and brake lever have needle bearings. | ||
