I had some work done on my S1 at dealers on the gearbox, 6 miles after riding from dealers the rear head gasket blew. What are the possible causes of this problem.

thanks eze

warped head -- damaged gasket sealing surface (head and cylinder), poorly torqued head/cylinder fasteners, bad karma . . . . . . .

I'd ask em if they had to release the troque on the head fasteners (although I don't believe you have to to service the gearbox) -- I spose it could be coincidence, but I'd ask em

Not letting the engine warm up before getting on the gas. The cylinders expand about 40 thou, according to the Sportster Performance handbook, I think.

Eric,

I noticed your bike from your avatar. I love it! Could you post or PM the list of mods you've made.

Thanks, Daniel. I'm flattered. Its:
body and controls: Arlen Ness fairing with homemade bracketry that allows removal with two bolts.(And headlight adjustment on-the-fly.)
Homemade aluminum chin fairing (although someone else did the welding.) Home-made clip-ons,rearsets, and imitation Banke shifter using a drill press as a milling machine.
suspension, etc: Progressive springs, Crossroads forkbrace, Brembo floating disc and fourpot, front, Russel rotor rear, Kawi ZRX shocks.
engine: 3" K&N in billet cover, Branch 1/2" over-length manifold, S1 heads (ported at home), S1 cams, Vance & Hines SSR2 exhaust.
At 85k miles,it's disassembled for a crank-up rebuld, including T-storm pistons into the S1 heads (with modifications, of course.) My new-to-me S2 will serve in the meantime, although it lacks the character of the Sporty.

I blew a rear head gasket myself. I was going full throttle with a passenger for an extended period of time. I rode it without proper warm up for a while before it happened (kept leaving late for work).

Clip-ons for the S2 have had their pilot holes drilled. Character is on its way.
And to keep with the thread: I frequently worry when we leave a gas-stop after taking time for a drink and BS session. We tend to like to leave with a show for the spectators, while the engines have been cooling for half an hour. Blown head gaskets don't surprise me,although I, personally, have been lucky so far.(Not that there have been a lot.But I'm surprised there aren't more.)
When I leave late for work,I just run up to a higher speed on the freeway but accelerate to it gradually 'til we're at operating temp.

Okay so in future I will leave the bike to warm up before full throttle, ...thinking back it did actually blow when I was being a bit flash with the throttle, I thought it had warmed up because i had only stopped engine for about 10 - 15 mins previously.
The funny thing is though (call me paranoid if you will)...who just called me paranoid?.
the odd thing is how when I took bike in for service the head bearing tightness was fine but when I rode it from service I noted that there was play in the steering bearings ...add to this the fact that the spanner monkey wanted to buy the bike from me & perhaps I may be justified in feeling that I had been spunked over by someone trying to take advantage of my good nature........Little does he realise that I have just been released on parole after serving 2 years in the slammer for spiking my neighbours milk bottle with LSD for pissing me off.
'Vengance is mine' sayeth the lord, 'eye for an eye & the whole world would be blind' sayeth Ghandhi. Personally I just want justice, lol

cheers eze
