I feel like I have to post a follow up. Many of you saw the for sale ad that i posted for the buell leather jacket. Some of you unfairly jumped the gun and publicly skewered me before all the facts were addressed.
There was a Vanson Buell leather jacket on craigslist for $40. I purchased the jacket locally. Unfortunately, when I got home the jacket didn't fit.
I decided to sell the jacket in numerous forums, including here. I was asking more than I paid with the intent of donating the proceeds to charity.
Within literally minutes of posting the ad, I was burned at the stake with accusations of gouging the price and trying to turn a quick profit- both here and facebook. Nobody bothered to ask me any details whatsoever. Nobody asked me what I actually paid. Nobody asked me my intentions.
Well I am pleased to report that the item sold on ebay for $280. The irony is that one of the people who bashed me actually ended up buying it. He has since come forward and apologized, which I give him credit for.
Of that $280 amount, ebay will directly pay $182 to Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin. Take away another $18 in fees and I am left with $80. this happens to be the exact amount that I paid the lady for the jacket off craigslist. So absolutely zero profit was gained on my end.
It is really disturbing these days the amount of bashing that occurs on these forums. It is so easy for people to post negativity when you don't have to face that person directly--, ie, its easy to hide behind your computers. I have left other forums for this exact reason. I am pretty sure I will leave facebook and badweb this week for the very same reason.
With that being said, this forum has been very helpful to me. I have several member's e-mail addresses that I will keep handy in the event that I ever need assistance. I likely will shy away from this forum and facebook for a while.
I am not asking for apologies. I am not asking for understanding. I don't even really need any replies to my comments. I just feel like I needed to post my thoughts on this whole matter.
Had I done it again- I probably would have posted up front the entire situation, including the intent for donation and the amount I paid for the coat. The reality is that I didn't really think it was necessary to explain. I assumed (wrongfully) that I wouldn't be put on trial.

You specifically asked to have that post removed by a moderator, so how about we not start this conversation again. That's not what this forum is here for. Claiming you were being burned at the stake is a bit dramatic.
You say you're not looking for apologies, but you're either hoping for some, looking to brag about how much you sold the jacket for, reporting that you'll be leaving the forum for attention, or are just trying to start the same conversation you just had removed. None of those options are going to be helpful to the forum.
