spent the evening machining a couple freshly powdercoated OEM pulleys. Gives a more custom look to tube framed bikes!

Looks great!

I don't want to hijack the thread, but a while back you mentioned possibility of doing X1 billet shifter & brake. I'm curious if this is still in the works. If yes, I'd be very curious about ballpark for price.

That does look great. Someday I'd like to update mine, it's definitely one of the most 90's looking parts on my S1. Judging from some of your other work I've seen, I've guessing these are done on a CNC, and not a manual mill?

I assume there's plenty of fancier pulleys you can buy from sportsters, but I assume they have different bolt patterns or different diameter center holes and don't bolt right up? I know the XB pulleys are different.

Does anyone know if the newer sportster pulley has a similar offset and similar sized center hole to the stock pulley?

I can adjust the bolt pattern, make a shim or bore the center hole but wouldn't want to modify the wheel.

I searched around a bit, and as best as I can tell, as long as you get the same tooth number, they're exactly the same aside from the center hole needing to be enlarged. I'm not sure how much. I saw one person say about 1/16th of material needed to be cut away.

Not sure if it's still there, but a few days ago I saw a buell rear pulley on ebay for $30 shipped, and most of the sportster ones, which I assumed would be cheap, all cost more than that, so if you act fast you can probably get the right pulley for the same/less money.

i believe the newer sportster pulleys went up in tooth count, therefore making the diameter larger and causing a tight belt issue. Also, looks like the newer sportsters went to a 1" belt instead of a 1 1/8"

A little googling and it looks like the newer sportster pulleys are most commonly 68 tooth. This would require a few more teeth on the belt but with a 29t front sprocket would yield almost the same ratio as stock. Also it looks like the 2004-2007 are 1-1/8" belts.

I might do this because I need a new belt anyways, I have some threads showing on my OEM belt and the XB belt I tried before skips.

I know I've read about the XB belts skipping because they're designed different to be able to withstand the pressure from the tensioner/roller. I assume the newer sportster belts are designed the same as the tuber belts since they don't have the tensioner roller?

XB belts are designed to flex backwards, not just forwards, to accommodate the belt path around the tensioner. Not sure what pressure has to do with forces affecting a drive belt. What do you mean by that?

It looks like the 68t pulley from an 04-07 sportster is 1-1/8th pulley. Also 1-1/8th belts from dyna's and other Harleys are available in 132 teeth which should put this pulley right in the middle of its adjustment range on a tuber.

It won't look as nice as Purpony's pulley but my stock pulley and belt is in terrible condition, it probably ate some gravel.

Marc either does or did make these to order.
I bought one a while back, I'm happy.
Ask him.

At BDL you can get belts in carbon fiber 1 1/8 x:
128T
130T
132T
133T
135T
136T
137T
139T

I'm running a 130T on my xb with a custom swing arm.

I've been running a XB belt on my S1 for 20,000 miles with zero skipping.

I usually just machine these that are shipped to me. However the one in the very first picture on the right is a spare that I just finished and have it listed on ebay. If you interested in send me an PM.
