Hello I am a new Buell owner. I bought my 99 X-1 last summer and absolutely love it. I am not a big fan of the rims. I was curious what I need to know about switching out the rims.

What wheels do your have? Cast 3 spoke? Are you looking to swap to Billet 3 spoke PM wheels, or 6 spoke XB wheels?

Cast 3 spoke

Pm Slant

PM Straight

Convert to XB wheels takes some machining and some labor

Or get crazy like Purpony and do this

Generally speaking, all tuber model rims are interchangeable between tuber bikes. Pulley and rotors too.
The XB rims can also be used, but with ("a lot") extra work.
There were limited 3rd party choices that bolted right on, Dymag carbon fiber and Dymag Magnesium, don't know of any others. BST carbon supposedly can custom make them up for Buell, don't know of any done. Those spoked rims are pretty nice!

The tire width sizes are slightly different between the various rims, PM and the Castalloy, like 180 vs 170 ?? So that's probably the kind of information that he's looking for...if anybody has that handy.

Front tires are all 120 regardless of wheel.

Rear tires on PM were 180.

Rear tires on Castalloy / Marchesini were 170.

Marchesini's are from early bikes, before Buell started sourcing the Castalloy's. The giveaway on a Marchi is this logo, cast into the spoke base:

They are dimensionally the same as the castalloys, but a bit lighter and much more rare since they were only used for the first couple years of production.

As noted above, all brakes, pulleys, and axles interchange from any tuber to any tuber wheel. I *think* (and someone please feel free to correct me) the rear wheel spacers are specific for PM wheels, though - if you have PMs you need the PM spacers, and if you have cast wheels you need cast wheel spacers.

I think.

Thank you everyone for your post. I am sorry to be late with any sort of response.

I have these rims at the moment.

And was looking maybe to get some of the Marchi I believe.

However the ones I really want are the stock rims of a HD xr1200x.

I am afraid the sportster rims would affect the ride to drastically.

Isn't the XR1200R front wheel 18" ? That would likely affect handling.

I have a white rear Marchesini for sale. They're sometimes listed in the classified section.

The PM rears at 5.5 inches wide are sized correctly for a series 180 tire, although 180's weren't actually used from the factory.

Will a 180 fit inside the hugger?
