So, I pull into the garage the other night after work and "hmm...the S2 is sitting funny". Back tire, put on right before WVBR, flat as a pancake. Put it on the battery tender last night. Go out tonight, fire up the compressor, fill up the tire, clear the motorcycle lift, start the bike to move it into the workshop so I can put it on the lift and check the tire with soapy water. HID headlight comes on...backing the bike out of its spot...HID goes out. HUH? Look at my Kuryakyn voltmeter. 18V red light is flashing, full tilt boogie. Kill the ignition. V stabilizes at 12, so it wasn't the tender cooking it overnight. Which...means...my VR has likely gone south. This is a newer HD unit that I put in maybe 10k miles ago? Maybe it's that old? Grrr. My thought is...after I test the stator of course...going MOSFET. I have a Shindengen VR from roadstercycle.com in my Ulysses and LOVE IT. I think one of those, combined with a relocation into some airflow.... Thoughts? |

Joe I expect the S2 has a 3 phase, so.. Should be the same R/R, the 2006 Uly is 3 phase. They went single phase in 2008. I just replaced the R/R on my 09 Uly with a used one and I can run the heated grips all the way to the shop now. I only have a single LED voltmeter on the Uly but it was really acting weird before I swapped out the R/R. I was lucky in that I had a spare on the shelf. Z |

S2 is single phase, same as Sporster. All Tubers are single phase. Only 03 XB was the first 3 phase. |
