Updated and rebuilt my oil pump today. In the process, I found a black plastic piece stuck in the oil IN line fitting coming from the oil tank. The piece was slightly curved and decently hard. No additional pieces were found in the oil tank or line to the oil pump.

Any thoughts as to what this might be to or where it came from? My thought (and hope) is that it fell into the oil tank at same point from the prior owner.

the oil lines harden and flake? my pump locked up a few years back. I elected to replace oil lines, the rubber was hard and plastic like.

Five years ago I bought a 96 S1 with 12,000 miles with a blown engine. When I took it apart I found a piece of plastic in the oil pump feed line hose. It looked like when the holes in the oil tank were cut out a corkscrew piece of plastic from the process may have been stuck in the tank and became free and found it's way in the line.

Dblast, I'm thinking your right. Although it could be Erik's false teeth...

My concern was that this might be a cover piece to a bearing or something. It doesn't feel like a grommet or rubber fitting. Sounds like my fears were misplaced as I don't believe there is any plastic anything where the oil would be.

I try to post a picture of it later for fun!
