Turn signal bases. The signals survive. Its the bases/stalks that crap out. They're attached to the light with 2 screws. Make em out of metal...they'd probably last forever! If only we had some old school badwebbers who could do machine work....hmmm.....  | ||

Just thinking out loud...if the bike hits the ground, would a durable metal turn signal stalk break the bodywork? Maybe they're supposed to sacrifice themselves. | ||

Ive seen heavy duty heat shrink and been thinking about using that over the base to help provide some support to the bases. If cut cleanly you might not be able to really tell anything was done. It's not standard wire heat shrink, fastenall sells some heavy duty and super heavy duty stuff.... Anyone tried this? | ||

Maybe I'll try that (I already have some of the heat shrink) on my fronts. They aren't broken yet. My rears...trash. I gotta do something. We've got an '08 DR650 at work - they're not the "same", but damned if they may not be close enough to work... | ||

I had one break while Jeff was in town and we were working on his bike, he had some safety wire and pliers so we wound some safety wire around one of the grooves on one side, then pulled it together and bridged the safety wire tightly to a groove on the other side of the break, pulled it up tight, and wound the wire so that it layed flat in the groove (channel?) of the turn signal stalk. then since we were in a bit of hurry to get riding we just used electrical tape to cover it up, it worked like a charm and would only be better with the heavy duty heat shrink. | ||

The ones I have that are shot, are SO shot they have literally disintegrated into multiple pieces. I need to get out there and mess with it. Colder weather setting in; I got the Uly back on the road with a new front end and wiring repairs, so my go-to bike is going again; and I've been so buried in other projects...I gotta get the S2 back on the rack and start figuring something out. We had an '11 DR650 in stock at work, and the signals are pretty darned close...might just order a pair of them and see how they do. |
