Occasionally when taking off in first gear I get a lurch, like a hesitation. It acts like the crab but Ive tried all kinds of mixture screw positions. Its stock except for a Supertrapp exhaust. I believe it has a 45 pilot and 195 main jet with an 88 Sportster needle {88s had no accelerator pump}. Id appreciate any ideas on this | ||

What RPMs does it happen at? Sound like typical reversion to me. Mine does the same thing and it's been dyno tuned and runs tight. | ||

It does ii right off idle as you begin to accelerate, like its momentary bog or something is slipping. It doesn't do it every time though | ||

Is it engine? Or could it be clutch/gearset/belt? | ||

It sort of feels like a bunch of teeth were missing from the belt but its brand new. It doesn't do it all the time either. I know my way around the Keihin carbs pretty well and don't think its that. What are you referring to in the gearbox ? | ||

I'd bet it's the clutch. Follow the adjustment in the Field Service Manual to the letter and see if that does it for you. | ||

Could be clutch, could be worn dogs in the transmission that aren't fully engaging first. Start with clutch adjustment - TOTAL adjustment, clutch pack and cable - and go from there. | ||
