Hello all, this is my first post on This site. I bought a 1995 thunderbolt about 2 months ago and thought i would say hi. I'm in the process of painting and cleaning-up the bike. Two question: where can i find front and rear signal lights that are similar to the originals. I also need mirrors. Can't find them anywhere!
Thanks!

Mirrors pop up on ebay occasionally. Turn signals are like hen's teeth. I've put XB signals on mine, available from www.americansportbike.com. They're pretty durable, and inexpensive too.

Emgo (sp?) makes a mirror available through Cycle Gear that has the same bolt pattern as the originals. Plus they have adjustable tension on the pivots so they don't flop around. I'd have to check but I think they were meant fit a Kawasaki ZX.
I think I had to remove and reverse the mounting arm to get the correct angle.

These are the mirrors you're needing . . . . I'd go with the Emgo option . . . but be sure to check in with Al at American Sport Bike and let him know of your acquisition of an S2. Few folks are a better source of information or parts. . . . their amazing service is kind of a bonus.

Congrats on the S2!

Anybody have a part number or application for the EMGO mirrors?

I got a reply back from the manufacturer . . . they are going to check for any old mirrors laying about.

But . . . it's Italy and it's August.

I'd be curious about the mirrors as well!

The S2 mirrors are obsolete (N2161.8A left, N2162.8A right). I have two new N2161.8A left mirrors here, $65.00 each, but no right ones. They aren't on the web site, though, you'll need to email or call for them, or just order a special ( http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/Special ) and put it in the order comments.

HD Net Parts finder says that Dudley Perkins, Rossiter, Bluegrass HD, HD of Eastgate, Lima HD, and Stock's have a right mirror in stock. But the parts finder system is highly unreliable, they might not really have them.

But at least we're smarter now!

It was a tough pill to swallow back when we first found out...

If HD of Eastgate is the Cincy one, they are only about 30 minutes from me if I can help.

They were pretty unreliable back when I had to deal with them, but that was quite a few years ago. They were early Buell though, so they might have one on the shelf.

I watched the owner shred a "knock off battletrax" course on a beautiful S1 impressively. Then heard him (off course after his run) execute a dramatic high side that left craters in the pavement and some important S1 parts dangling. Apparently, he had that bike to sell, had somebody take it on its first ride for a test ride where they promptly stuffed it under a guard rail, and he brought it back, fixed it, and liked it so much he just kept it.

The best dealer demo ahas when xxxxx set out to take a new S1 "around the block" prior to delivery.

The new owner, new to Buell in 1996, stood there as xxxx launched the bike on xxxx Street. Something went horribly wrong and the bike shot, like an arrow, through the window of the Kawasaki shop across the street and ended up, in the middle of the show room . . mangled.

Fortunately xxx. . who had another identical Billet Metallic S1 in stock . . .didn't miss a beat as he emerged from the showroom . . . saying "don't worry, I've got another" . . which he promptly delivered.

I can imagine the letter...

quote:

Dear BMC,

Your S1's have attacked several of our ZR-7's this month. If you can't control your motorcycles, please keep them on leashes.

Thank you,
Kawasaki

Bzzzz-ZAP!

That's the bike that brought me to Buell. Like a moth to a flame. Or a bug zapper.

If I'm correct, the 'poster' is actually a page out of the 1996 Buell brochure. I've never seen it offered as a true poster, but since the brochure was oversized...

That sidestand design lasted until primary gaskets started deteriorating and allowed sport trans fluid to leak. That happened before production start, so no production S1 Lightnings were built with that sidestand design.

That dealer demo story is AWESOME!!!

Wonder whether the new metal gaskets would have the same problem.

So...that frame doesn't have the kickstand mount on it? That's got to be a rare frame. Never sold though, I take it. Probably in a dumpster somewhere.

I have, or had, cases of on open posters and literature still wrapped in plastic. I'm not sure how much it would still left but the worst great posters about that period in time.
