However the cold cranking amps are 175; and the capacity is 10 ah. I dont know if this will work for the bike. Can anyone chime in?

I agree, you shouldn't cut a tuber frame just on principal, but it's too late for this one....Just hoping now that Gianni gets it just how he wants it, and then keeps it forever. Otherwise, Rocket is right, it will likely end up a Redneck Mutant Zombie.

Oooops, too late : (

WTF are you doing to that poor great bike?

I think it is a cool concept. Just hard to see how the seat and tank will flow together. Not my cup of tea but it isn't mine so I won' t criticize. Good luck with the build.

Interesting idea with the Heim joints. I'll wait until it's done to pass judgement...

Still would have been a shitload easier with an X1.

Gianni - please do not allow it to become this:

Actually with the newly designed tail it looks like an interesting practice in allowing a bit more reach and keeping stockish lines, instead of "butt in the air" stink bug type mods some insist on doing.

Gianni, I just trimmed the foam down in my seat and found better clearance, mostly just because I like to put my feet down flat... but it appears you are trying to honor the original design and just make it work for your body... I felt a bit sick when I saw your picture with the tail cut off, but again, the modded subframe looks good so far.

Carry on sir, hope it works out for you.

That the Buell in question, its owner and modifier are courting opinion on a forum, allows I can say what I please about what is being done to that poor Buell.

Maybe I should set about my 37 Cord Supercharged and hack it into a crude pick up truck. That should please the purists.

Maybe you should. Stock is boring. Make it your own as long as you dont completely destroy the bike. There is nothing wrong with what the OP is doing.

Rocket, if everyone took your position, innovation would be halted. Buell would have stopped at his first rendition and the s1 would have never come to fruition. Alas, such is not the case. Each modification I have performed on my bike has been to better adapt it to accomplish my needs. Just as you have modified you s1 to suit yours. Thank you for your opinion s, however, a simple "not for me." Would suffice in the future.

To everyone else, thank you for your opinions.

Can anyone provide feedback on the battery I am considering? I have reached out to the company but have not heard back.

I keep going back and forth about getting a lithium battery and have looked at many. The earthX although larger then some say they have an internal board that allows balanced charging so you can use a standard charger.

I talked to Mirai and they said that is a gimmick and their battery does not have this, you can use a standard charger but only for 1-2 hrs. I would also think that the 175 CCA is going to give you a lot of headaches....

Amperage on that battery sounds pretty low - I think a stock battery is about 220 CCA. I have no experience with that particular product, but the fuel injection system is going to be sensitive to having enough amperage.

And, Gianni - what you are doing to that S1 is in no way related to "Innovation" from the factory. You are customizing it to suit your needs, and you DID irreversibly mod a fairly rare frame to do so. Rocket made his point earlier - mods of this nature are pretty particular to the owner. Since these mods are so particular, if you decide to move to another bike, or decide this project isn't working out, your bike would be damn near impossible to restore. So far as I know, right now no one is "Restoring" S-1s. But we are starting to see interest in S2 restoration - and a few years from now, other tubers may start getting that attention as well.

If you love the bike and modify it to suit yourself - well - suit yourself, I guess. From your posts, you are doing the mods because you love this particular bike - I can't fault that.

You did destroy it's collectable status and more likely than not, shoved it's resale value into the crapper. No big thing as long as you keep it and love it, but, as Rocket said, pretty much guaranteed that it will end up chopped if it ever leaves your possession.

Well, Mirai said its a no go for the battery I was considering thereby confirming everyone's recommendations here.

I called Anti-gravity who recommended the AG1201 (12 cell). However, the battery is much larger than I wanted. They were very nice and explained that an 8 cell would work; however, it would only work for approx. 6 months due to it being overworked by the 1200 motor.

I am speaking with a company called Bikemaster to see if they have anything.

Right now, the best battery I have spotted for my application is one made by Battery Tender.

I will let everyone know what I find.

You definitely want a 12 cell IMO. I saw your post about the Marai, which put me on the thought, and ended up picking up a Ballistic. Very small, but nice, and starts my bike easily. I would have liked a 2x6 cell setup, but I suppose all 12 cell variants are 3x4. Either way, incredibly small and lightweight.

Lynrd, so eloquently put thanks.

AND BANG ON RIGHT. And the second S1 in a month we've seen mutilated from BadWeB members. Such a practice with such an attrition rate is a scary thing. More so when we see elsewhere the ones been mutated, chopped, parted out. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Mr Owens...

The posters from places outside the US bring a Unique mix to bad web, Rocket is one of the "OLD-HANDS" here, and at times makes for interesting and colorful conversation,

He may be [IS] BLUNT but his observations help bring some Variety to the conversation..

I may not agree with him but I do find his views "interesting"

telling Rocket to "Piss-off" adds little to the discussion.......

Like I was told when young if you cant say some thing nice say nothing.....

Gianni, Good luck with your project I hope that its all you are looking for, and thank you for your thoughtful replies....

from the porch...

+1 oldog

I am 5-10 and my x1 is still a little too tall for me at stop signs and lights so I just try not to stop lol. That's just me I would rather be moving comfortably than doing serious modding to make it comfy for standing still JMHO. To each is his own and if you're happy I'm happy Keep it up and let nobody's opinion keep you from you're vision.

I've never been called a joker before either, but funnily enough I do take my Buell seriously, as I might do others if they didn't turn them into jokes!

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, especially when it comes to tail section builds.

Yes rebar and scaf bar for the front and rear frame sections.

The purpose of both elements were, they were free from any building site as discarded stuff. No money spent! The prototype was to see if it was a viable proposition to build kits made with what would normally be used for motorcycle frame tubing. The real bike never got built, but there's time yet, maybe.

Incidentally, we did have a topic where we discussed recently what an engine was as a stressed member. The V8 bike is the purest form of such. The front of the engine has a triangular headstock bolted to it. The rear similar, which carried the clutch, drive shafts and wheel/brake combination. The engine represents the entire middle of the three sections that make the whole. A pure stressed member arrangement.

As for the rear section. It was based along the lines of an XR750.

a good rear end

The below is the updated progress. The frame has painter's tape to see how it would look in that color. All that is left are the rear lights and it will be ready to ride.
