I am finally back on a Buell again and hopefully permanently. I used to own a 01 M2 cyclone and an 07 xb12ss. Ive tried a few other bikes and decided that Buell's are the best bike for me. I recently picked up a 99 x1 and completely love the bike. The original owner was a Harley mechanic and built the head on this bike for performance so there is less low end and too much top end (in my opinion). I have made a few changes to the bike since I got it like: New led tail light, plastidipped red, led headlight and custom fairing, levers, mirrors, removed carbon fiber decals, led blinkers. I will post up some pics as soon as I get home. | ||

Check your belt tension. It looks way too tight. You should be able to depress it enough to easily touch the swingarm. Harley mechanics routinely set it too tight because they are used to Harleys where the belt gets looser as the suspension compresses. | ||

@General ulysses- The paint is plastidip so I can peel it off when I get tired and the front windscreen was some touring one so it looked out of place. I made my own but I also have purchased and oem one to use with a trucklite when I can buy one. @Hootowl- Thanks for the heads up, I got a service manual with the bike so I will definately double check it. | ||

The way to set it perfectly is to suspend the rear of the motorcycle, disconnect the shock from the swingarm, and move the swingarm through its entire range of motion, making sure that it doesn't stick at the apex. Once you do this, check the tension on the belt after you've reconnected the shock and put the tire back on the ground. You should find that you can gently push on the belt and hit the swingarm. That's all I check for any longer. Buell did some testing, and found that there's no disadvantage to running the belt "scary loose", so I tend to err on the side of caution and run it pretty sloppy. | ||

How much light does that headlight put out in comparison with the OEM unit? The before picture is the way to go....IMHO, of course. | ||

I'm not a fan of the original round headlight and this looked better to me but to each his own. It cost me $30 for the headlight, relay and plexiglass. I still have the oem parts in case I get tired of it. I was also considering doing the xb headlights and fairing. @Kalali - the light output is much brighter than the oem but its not road legal because it doesnt have that straight cutoff line. | ||

Got an update on the bike. I installed a vrod headlight with a custom flyscreen, gauge dashboard, breather reroute using asb kit and home made catch can, painted subframe black and custom led strip taillight.    |
