Ken, try to find a late model X1 or S3 motor. Same thing as a S1W but has all the fixes that you need to do to a S1W motor.
The 98 S1 that I built from a roller frame (Thanks Fireman Jim!) has an 02 X1 motor in it. Great fun!

I LOVE the idea of tearing up a Redneck Chopper to put the parts in a proper frame!

And yes, you have an awesome wife.

Ok it is a 98 cyclone redneck hardtail his lowest starting cost is 6000 the tank needs new paint the useable parts for me is the wheels, gauge cluster, pegusus dash, rear and front calipers, windscreen, abd motor with thunderstorm heads and pistons. What I could sell is the frame, rear fender , front m2 forks, triple trees, front fender, forcewinder intake, 1" straight bars, very nice brake and clutch levers, very nice forward controls, exhaust, and a few misc
What is some thoughts on price?

IMHO after you sold the parts I think you'd still be in it more than buying an M2. You'd have to get 3k out of the parts to break even. I think it would be cheaper to buy an engine on ebay . They usually run 1200 to 1500.

Agree - buy the engine separate - that silly rigid frame retails at almost $3k, but I don't image getting half that on the used market.

For Reference - a Gambler chromemoly Rigid Frame for a big twin cost under two grand from the manufacturer back in the day. Redneck builds theirs from 1020DOM - like I built my barbeque.

Sold as a rolling chassis - MAYBE you get three - then some other mouth breather buys the rolling chassis and destroys ANOTHER Buell...grrrr

My opinion - Six grand is a stupid amount of money for a rigid frame sportster. Maybe 3 grand for a nice one, but, Jesus Christ - you can buy a Big Twin rigid for six.

Before I found the Frog, I cruised eBay quite a bit for engine assy's and found quite a few good candidates from Pinwall cycles - they seem to be a motorcycle salvage yard. I've bought several small pieces from them and had no problems.

But you can tell Mr Redneck I'll give him 2 grand for that rolling piece of rural sculpture and I'll even give him back the frame once I'm done with it.

Plus 1 the S&S 100" if your gonna build a bike you love mine aswell spend the money for a engine you will never get enough of. Hell I was gonna put one in my bike over the winter but I decided to wait for the new 1190RS to come out. I can only get one or the other. Besides who knows how abused those engine are from the junkyard or ebay.

The S&S is awesome but out of the question although she is amazing I do have a budget. Right now I am trying to decide Buell or cruiser I currently only have the S1 so maybe broadening the horizons for long comfortable rides?

Sounds good I like the cruiser idea. My x1 is very comfortable on long rides longest I've ever had it was 8 hours round trip(2 hour break while stopped) and I had no pain at all. I'm thinking about actually putting a sissy bar on mine not a huge one just a tiny one and making it my cruiser I've never seen one on it but it can't look to bad.

Come on! You need to think "out of the box".

How about one of the new Indian engines:

Probably no more HP than the original engine, but MOUNTAINS of torque!

Or if you REALLY want to go fast, how about an 1125 powered tuber?

That would actually be a very cool project, and not much more costly than installing an air-cooled Buell, but it would be a bit more work.

I agree Hugh I like that idea. An 1125 tuber that sounds pretty cool how much is a used 1125 engine?

1125 drive sprocket is on the other side I believe and you have throttle bodies right where your gas tank lives.. 1125 is way different than a Sportster or Buell engine..
Either way you won't know what you are buying unless you hear it run or ride the donor bike.

For the 1125 swap, I think you'd have to run an 1125 swingarm, which means you'd have to fabricate a top mount for the conventional shock. Engine mounts would have to be fabricated, but you wouldn't have to bother with isolators since the 1125 has balance shafts. Yea, the throttle bodies would be a pain; I think you'd just have to build a custom gas tank to make room for the intakes. And of course you've got to find somewhere to hang a radiator or radiators and an oil cooler.

I'm sure it'd be a fairly major undertaking but I think it'd be a very cool motorcycle when you got through.

@kalali lol I know I'm kicking myself for the thought to but after a little fab anything can be made to look good and it's mostly because my lady likes the turns so much on the x1 and the appearance of it she doesn't want to ride on any other bike. So seeing as she is agreeing with me on buying the new 1190RS/RX(haven't decided yet) I could try and fab something up to make her rides more comfortable.

@hugh it sounds like you might be better off trying to find a "totaled" bike and swap parts onto the tuber as like a hybrid lol. That way you at least have a good set of materials you can alter to fit. What do you think?

@S1 you mentioned a budget earlier. Is that something you would be willing to share with us as a ballpark figure? So we can actually give you realistic ideas lol and how much work/fab are you willing to do yourself? And a time of completion you would look to get it done in? Like strictly a 1
Winter project? Or till its done kind of a thing that way we can sorta try and help you brain storm some ideas that would work best for your situation/timeframe and budget

I'm really interested in this thread 'cause I bought a M2 roller that's missing the front wheel for a mere $35 last month; including gas tank. I actually have a set of nuke blue wheels, so all I need is power, controls, and all the misc parts to make it streetable.

I'm interested in building a bike as well and want to do it on the cheap but in a cool way. I started a thread a few weeks ago on putting XB power in a tuber. Don't know how much fab would be involved, but it is an intriguing possibility to me. I definitely want to stay w/the sportster based power.

My best advice to you is if you want to do it do it. You have got the entire forums here that I'm sure would help you problem solve any problems you come across that's what we are here for. I don't think anyone on here knows exactly how much fab it would take just pull ur pants up and ur welding helmet down and know it'll
Probably be alot
