While dealing with my charging/battery issues, I discovered that a hose is just hanging there. It goes down to the crankcase and must be a ventilation hose. My uneducated guess is that is somewhere should connect to another hose going to the carburetor? Anyway, should I leave it alone or should I connect it? And, if so, where do I route it and what do I connect it to? I consulted the Service Manual but didn't find it.

The tranny vent hose doesn't connect to anything. Just be careful when washing to avoid directing a stream of water into it.

Yep, it's just an "up and out" vent hose for the transmission/primary. Leave it open, zip tie it to a frame rail to keep it from flapping (but don't squeeze it shut).

i usually point the open end down without pinching the hose and clamp or ziptie. tranny/primary vent. when it starts puking oil and you see the engine oil level falling it is time for a new crank seal.

It was factory zippped tied to the frame tube pointing down along side the voltage regulator on 95 models..HB

For SAFETY, you "RUN" this breather hose to a catch can because if it blows oil on your tire you will understand "WHY" !!!

In 96 they ran the hose up behind battery and zipped tied to frame outa site.
As Rat stated,It is actually the vent for the trans/primary case, so, unless overfilled, it shouldnt emit any oil..The engine vents thru the head bolts/air cleaner as well as from the timer cover to the oil tank.

Do not for get what happens when you motor sprocket seal goes bad and a transmission breather hose catch container prevents oil from getting on your rear tire !!!
