Just recently bought a 2000 M2 Cyclone. I find the seat to be bulky and like the look of the back of the lightnings... I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to clean up the back and make it look more like a street bike.  | ||

A Harley Davidson XR 750 racing seat can look pretty good on a Buell. No frame mods required. | ||

The earlier M2's used a skinnier seat. The Ducati monster seat seems popular, as well. | ||

airtech makes a few different tails that can be fitted with a little work. this is one of their dt tails but i can't remember which one. either the xr750 or one of the universals. they have full dimensions on their site, get out your tape measure   | ||

Also as not mentioned as far as I could see, the early (M2) slim seat and tail are a straight bolt on affair, no modification required. That's a Corbin seat in your pic isn't it Brin? If you want to keep it Buell that's probably the way to go, I kind of wish I'd done mine that way, now that my daughter is getting older it would be nice to have a better passenger perch. Fitting up a S1 seat and tail is a lot more work (cutting and welding rear sub frame, see profile pic), and the seat has been referred to as a number of things things including a plank and a thong. Of the factory seats I think the Euro style seat for the S1 is the most comfortable. Many find the S1 seat uncomfortable, I did, but cut and reshaped the foam and am able to do long days in it... easier if I've done some bicycle days in the same season, a little conditioning goes a long way. | ||

PS I think you have a 2001 - the 2000 came with grey wheels and the silver lettering on the tank. | ||

The star dust silver came on later models. Pre 99 generally had the titanium or platinum color frame and wheels (I forget and don't have my reference material at hand). My Y2K has a black frame and wheels, I'm pretty sure it was the standard color with possibly other options available. I've never sat on a Low seat but they definitely look less huge, though they are still wide. | ||

Mine is a 2000 with black frame and the grey wheels. But the lettering on the tank was definitely not white on the molten orange M2s in 2000. | ||

Depends on the bike I think, that one looks stock to me, many did have the white. My black on black bike came with white lettering. | ||

Tyler, your bike appears to have minimal mods to it - stock turn signals and pre-recall shock with the clam-shell support. The original fender was really long, I can't tell if yours has been trimmed or not. When I first got mine I cut it to the length of the plate. When you cut it too short it starts to become impractical for a regular use bike because you get dirty as well as wet if you get caught in the rain, or your plate flops around until it breaks. Some have trimmed the tail, others have removed the tail and run the seat on the frame with just some cover up pieces for trim. Keep your eyes out for a 97-98 M2 tail and seat and maybe you'll even find one in molten orange that you can bolt on and forget about. Your bike looks really clean, looks like you found a good one. Steve, are you talking about Gnutlethal's bike above (black/orange)? Mirrors look to be fashion not function on that particular bike, don't know how you could see anything at all through them. Everyone always gave Buell a hard time with their seats. The S1 and the M2. They came out with a wider tailsection and a comfortable seat, as compared to the old stock ones | ||

the mirrors are similar to a set I saw in streetfighter magazine which where called Donny darko(note the spelling is different to the film) mirrors and I really like the look of them, don't care how impractical they are they look good, I wouldn't have my Buell if I wanted a practical bike. |
