Guys,
I went for a short ride today and I suddenly realized that I had lost the nut and washer (if there was one) that holds the trip reset knob.. I've got an S1W so it's the one you have to turn. Now the darn knob falls back through the hole and it's impossible to reach unless I remove the flyscreen...

What thread is it and where can I get a nut and washer? Anyone got one lying around..?

Thanks/ Jonas

Mine fell off my S2T on Friday. Funny.

I'm heading to Hal's on Monday. Hope they have one!

Reach underneath that area and push it back through. Until you get the washer and nut, use some electrical tape to hold it in place. And by the way, you can still use it until you get the new hardware. I am.

I got one years ago for my S2...I want to say I had to get a HD part; the Buell part was unobtanium. Maybe a Dyna part of the same vintage?

Take your bike. If your parts guy is any good, have him/her go out and look at the bike. They should be able to ID it on sight...

I now know of four people this has happened to. Think I'll place a drop of blue loctite on mine as soon as I get home.

Has anyone successfully sourced a (working) HD replacement?

Like I said, I got just the ring and rubber washer years ago. No idea what the application was...but they're out there.

You can probably do OK if you go to an HD desk and say "I have a chrome twisty odometer reset knob, and need the nut and washer for it". That will tell them to go get the old Evo guy from the back room, because he probably knows off the top of his head which bin the part is in.

And yes, mine went on with loctite when I got it. Been on there for years now, no issues.

I was only able to find these at one dealer in the country. I got 4 of the seven he had. Try american HD in NY.

I have a bunch of the entire reset cable assys (black), complete with the nuts...

Free with any purchase, just mention it in the order comments.

Don't ask me to ship just the nut.....

When it happened to me, I bought a brass compression fitting at Lowes, and it fit.

This from Court a long time ago.

"Go tell your dealer that you have lost the speedo reset knob for you (choose about any year between 1987-1/2 and 1995) SPORTSTER"

I've got the part number somewhere, I just can't find it at the moment.

Found it again!
Part #7518

On the hunt for one of these as well. FWIW, I did find a Sportster reset cable (vs. the Big Twin one) at Debrix. http://www.debrix.com/Cable-Speedo-Reset-Sportster -p/57-77-mw.htm
