What?

You'll have to speak louder.

I can't hear you.

Actually, I like the factory silencer.

I did too until the front muffler mount tore loose and ripped a big hole in it.

Gotta replace it with something.

When I got my new to me '02 X-1, it had a D&D on it. Using my best noise abatement riding techniques, I still saw folks 2 blocks ahead of me in town turning around to see what was coming. Out on the highway, about 30mins was all I could take before the exhaust noise got really tiresome.

And in my case, any performance gain was a moot point; I can't/don't use all the power the factory put in there. So I took mine off, put on the stock muffler, and never looked back. YMMV.

You need the updated Y hanger to use a D&D so make sure you get one of those if you don't have it already

I enjoy waking my entire neighborhood up every morning when I leave for work. Earplugs are a must.

Better than a deer whistle! Cell phoners take notice! Had mine on for 40,000 plus miles.

I never tire of the sound. The only reason I wear ear plugs is because of the wind noise.

I wear ear plugs for longer rides. I had a race pipe on the XB. Understand this is much louder.

My problem with the Race Pipe on my M2 was that there were many situations where I had to choose between being the "A** H*** on the loud bike" or using "noise abatement" procedures.

"Noise abatement" means small throttle openings and low RPM and that = slow.

With my factory silencer in place I can ride faster more often so, on the street, the factory silencer is a "speed enhancement".

I now view loud pipes on a street bike as a means of notifying the nearest LEO that I am going too fast and I need a ticket.

It is kind of like a putting a bell on a cat to warn songbirds.

Stealth is fast on the street.

Another thought: On the race track a D&D would be great (if you can pass sound tech).

IMHO, the D&D has been my favorite mod I have made. With the cams I have, it makes a certain sound over 3K that I have never heard come out of a machine, and I must admit that I like it. A lot.

I love the sound of my D&D system!! The best thing about a D&D system is that it can be taken apart into 4 different pieces and you don't have to remove any other bike parts. Here is a sound bite video

I can take my Race system off in two pieces without having to remove any other bike parts!

The D&D is LOUD. I loved it, but had to keep the throttle down in the neighborhood. I see Dave's point, but that's just too quiet and restrictive for me and my bike.

My D&D and my race can sound pretty much the same. I've been told that is because my race can needs to be repacked, but it's fine. They're both the same design, which is a straight through perforated tube with packing around it. And neither one is THAT loud. I keep the revs down, and my neighbors don't complain. I don't leave for work at 4AM though. If I did, I have no doubt it would wake them, with either the race can or the D&D.

If you're getting an aftermarket can for a Buell, I strongly recommend D&D. They are built very well, and have stainless packing.

No complaints with my full D&D system. Like others have said it's LOUD. I used to wear hearing protection for the wind noise...Now I wear it for the D&D and wind noise.

Hmmm, so let's see, you guys have a LOUD pipe and then wear ear plugs? So is it just for annoying the neighbors and passersby?! I must be missing something...

Yes. And setting off my coworker's car alarm. In all honesty it came with the bike but I love the way it sounds. Above 70 all I hear is wind noise anyway.

I wear ear plugs because I find the wind noise deafening. I don't even hear the exhaust on any of my bikes over the wind noise while moving.

YMMV,

Some folks are annoyed by loud pipes, some folks are annoyed by the sound of whiney little fruitcakes complaining about loud pipes.

Think the D&D on a tuber is loud? Listen to one on an 1125.

I rode to Homecoming '09 from STL to Hal's behind an 1125R with a D&D. Had to keep looking at my tach cuz I couldn't hear my own X1 w/ D&D.

'struth Pk! I've got the FMF Full and had the FMF slip-on on my 1125 and they are both ungodly loud. My understanding is the 1125 D&D is even louder.

BTW, you and a few others helped me out w/some color questions and fed my addiction awhile back:

Great.. I sold the bike pictured in the first post and have been itching to build another nuke frame X1 that's currently in pieces on a shelf. Seeing your new toy doesn't help.

I really like the Supertrapp pipe a lot, you can tune it for volume/power and they are so robust!

Have you seen them polished? They shine up so very bright, and then color nicely golden with the exhaust heat run through them. I have a few extra disks and some hardware (internal allen screws I think) if you bought a used pipe and have need of it.

I am also not a fan of loud pipes that wake me up early in the morning on my days off, and make it a point to tell my neighbors who think that's proper behavior.
