Id like to try & cut some of the heat off the engine on my right leg down. Its not as bad as my 07 was but Id still like to reduce it some. Anyone had any luck with heat taping the rear pipe or other ideas like a scoop for the rear cylinder ? | ||

I put a second heat shield on top of the first one after melting some rain gear. Still hot but won't instantly sear flesh. A layer of heat insulation in between might help even more but with my aerostitch on it's not too bad. | ||

Rather than futz with the bike, I was thinking of adding a big pocket, like a pad pocket, to the inside of the right leg of a pair of jeans, and inserting some heat shield fabric in there. '96 S2T with black headers, no heat shield in place (ugh). | ||

The former owner of my S2 wrapped both pipes with header tape - that white cloth stuff. Just did 100+ miles yesterday - Up to San Francisco (~50 miles), around the financial district for a meeting, and back to San Jose. I noticed a little heat up in the city but nothing major - so I would advocate doing the header wrap if you can stomach the look. The white tape looks pretty nice on the white and red bike to my eye. | ||

I have the Supertrapp 2-1 on my Harley Fatboy taped because it kept burning the bottom of my pants and melting my shoes. Thats what I was thinking of doing (Message edited by mtkawboy on August 25, 2012) | ||

I have the pipes on my S2 wrapped with heat wrap and it makes a huge difference. I love it. It is also awesome for the times you accidentally rub a hand or arm against the pipes. You still immediately jerk away from the heat, but because of the wrap there is no burn. It comes in various colors. Try Jegs or Summit Racing. | ||

Until your pipes fall apart because they can't dissipate the heat. You should go at it from a clothing perspective, not a bike mod perspective, the old air cooled motor is just doing what it's designed to do and any barriers you put in place will only affect it negatively. | ||

I've been using header wrap for over ten years. No worries. Just keep it off the collector. | ||

my leg and other parts sweat with heat wrap on a steel header or a bare stainless header. I've put bubble insulation under the seat and on the back side of my heat shield - neither have been enough. At 37 MPG I'm guessing I'm rich enough, so the next step is a 2001 heat shield, or a fan like a buddy on FB. |
