Frank- I installed the xb belt, it looks pretty damn stout. Mine broke after I got home last year. At least you have a garage full of bikes if shove comes to push.

...You can run that belt until the revs jump up and forward motion runs out!

I'm not feeling too bad now! Mine is sitting at home with the tranny pulled. I keep getting chattering when the clutch is pulled in or released. I've been chasing it for a while. I've checked and dressed up the clutch to make sure it wasn't worn or glazed. I've replaced a couple of bearings. But still had it. The output bearing, while only being about 2yrs old, spun free and smooth but seemed to have more lateral play than I would have liked. So, I picked up a new one today. Chattering or not, that bike is heading to AR! Whether it makes it or not... We'll see.... I can't wait to see everyone again! It sounds like the biggest gathering to date.

I'm looking at riding routes for Friday and Saturday.

200ish miles for those days good for everyone? More or less miles?

Patrick and I will be down there this coming week for another rally so we should have a once over for any route we take.

The battle so far:
After soaking with PB Blast for a week, snapped an allen socket with a 3/8 ratchet on the first try.
Used heat an impact wrench and had two back out without incident. Snapped the socket on the third.
Backed off the air level, lots more heat, got impatient and upped the air, snapped another.
Lots of heat on another, got it loose with a 7-in-1 allen tool.
The nearest Sears didn't have an allen socket suitable for air. On my way to see what I can dig up at Harbor Freight. I've stripped one head but the other two are still solid. The one that's stripped I can rock the plate so the threads are loose - it's just frozen to the plate.

Note that part number AA0612.5CZ is now obsolete with only a couple dozen sites having stock. I'm sure there's a replacement. I seem to remember someone using an alternate head but there may be an issue with the angle that makes it hard to find the right part. I ordered my spares. Thought I'd give everyone fair warning.

Roger- I think you need more heat differential. Try some canned air like for cleaning keyboards. Heat the whole plate then spot cool the bolt head. You want the plate to expand and the bolt to contract. Liquid nitrogen would be ideal, but most compressed gases will generate cold when sprayed out of a tube. Just be careful if they are flammable ones.

Roger, there is also the concept of rapping a centre-punch with a hammer in the middle of the allen hole. And even trying to tighten it for a couple to rattles. (that puts wear on the surfaces that you aren't needing to undo while disturbing the corrosion.)

Tried ice for heat differential, tried using a center punch in the middle, no joy. Learned that the Kobalt socket isn't as good as Sears. Maybe a step lower. The HF impact socket isn't any better, though I admit I didn't expect much since it's a 3/8 drive. Tightening a couple rattles and then going to loosen did have amazing results! Down to 1 to drill out but need to satisfy a social obligation. Hopefully it won't put up much more of a fight!

SR 62 and SR21 look good Loren, and you can loop it long or not so long.

I am thinking now of leaving this Thursday, do a 3-4 day run on I90/I94 to Madison, WI, and then leave there on Wednesday to go on to Arkansas. That way I would have a full 7 days to meander on back to the rain forest.

You guys and gals are going to have a spectacular time.

Arkansas, as we learned at the first Buell Motorcycle annual owners event, has some of the most amazing roads in the United States.'

I'll be in East Troy . . . but will be watching for the stories and pics . . . some of the most amazing Buell folks mixed in with a crowd of S2's . . .this is gonna be good!

Ride safe, lean much and smile more,
Court

Bolt #6 just let go. Now, what was I doing?
@Shane - Propane. When things were going good I couldn't help but hear Hank talk of Propane and Propane accessories!

New belt is on, oil is changed, maps on the gps are updating and ready to go. I need to lay out the "support" equipment and pack but I am ready. Lynn is in WI visiting family so I have had plenty of time to get ready.

I extended my time off from work to two weeks. I need it.

I heard that Frank!

I was originally thinking that I would just burn interstate to AR, and do an Iron Butt, because I couldnt' miss work for too long with it as hectic as its been. But, I ended up saying screw it and will be taking a couple of days to follow the Ohio River into KY and running the down, and along the bottom of KY. It should be a nice ride.

Got the bike back together last night, all the time thinking of Jack and hoping he can pull his build off in time... GO JACK!

Bike started chattering again as I let out my clutch to pull into work. I'm just going to run it and see how it goes...

I am leaving tonight. My wife is going to ride along to Ellensburg and then take a fun way back home tomorrow. I will be heading east on I-90 and I-94 so I can be in Madison WI for Fathers Day with my daughter and her husband. That is a real direct route, so it is just under 2000 miles.
It is just an easy 3+ hours to Ellensburg, but that keeps me from having to leave in the morning up the I-5 mess. Instead I get an early start across the desert to Spokane, and a great ride through the Bitterroot Mountains, actually a fun ride on the freeway. I should be able to make Butte or Billings MT or a little further tomorrow, on into North Dakota on Friday, Madison Saturday night or Sunday morning. This was going to be my return leg, but I think it will work out better this way, I get an extra couple days to wander coming home.

All I wanted to do was put on new tires....
Man what a pain. When I had the rear wheel on the changer I noticed that one of the sprocket bolts was loose. Not loose, sheared off....
Figured I better check the other 4. 3 were fine, #4 is also sheared off. Both below the surface. Soaked them in PB over night. No joy using all the usual methods. Wound up drilling the first one out as far as I could then using a carbide bit in a Dremel to slot the internal side of the now hollow bolt. Finally got the first one out, some damage to the threads but not enough to worry about drilling oversize and retapping.

I have the "pilot" hole drilled through #2 and will attack it tomorrow.
Wonder how much fun I will have with the front....

I still may need to swap the starter too..

Ugh!!!

Brad

So far so good. Had a delay coming over the Cascades as DOT was rock blasting. Macy's S3 went into skip spark mode a couple times. First mountain run since I added the 1250 kit so I will need to do some remapping when I get back home. Sun is up and free breakfast is next, on the road by 7,late start.
