Whereabouts in Kansas? I was planning to drop down through central Kansas until far enough south, then head east to Rogers.

Frank, I was thinking more about crossing paths the last hundred miles of so if the planets aligned. I traveled through southern Kansas and spent a night in Dodge City a few years ago, bringing a FLHS back to Washington from Wisconsin. Southern Kansas reminded me of North Dakota, only with less scenery. It was a step up from the Oklahoma panhandle though.

Loren: I'm in for food. Hootowl and I are planning on arriving Thursday evening, time will depend on road conditions between Houston and the site.

Pretty quiet in here...I guess everybody's getting geared up for the event.

I've sorted out a few last-minute electrical gremlins on my bike, just need to mount a new front tire and grease the bearings on my trailer.

2.5 weeks to go!

Jack: How's the fireman coming along with yours?

Just replaced the front tire, already had a new rear.

I've discovered that I need a new front axle nut. You'd think a nut would be pretty easy to acquire in a short period of time. Not so. I can get one from mcmaster carr, but I have to buy 25 of them. There are two on ebay (with the axle) for $60. Not going to happen.

New footpegs and 2001 shifter are installed.

Have to put the front end together, bolt up the body work, and I'm golden.

Hootowl,

Try these guys.

http://www.allensfasteners.com/

They are the cheapest for the front motor mount bolts, and you can buy one at a time. I think I placed three or four orders with them this winter, they always shipped the day I ordered or the next.

two weeks to departure Jack...

I am getting my new tires on, last year I tried a Pirelli Angel on the rear, the front was a Diablo I had sitting around. The heat and long straight stretches across the upper midwest really toasted the rear. This year I am trying the new Bridgestone BT023 touring tire. I kinda expect it to look the same at the end of the trip.

Shane...yeah.....did not "plan" on cutting it this close.......

I ran Dunlops road smarts last trip, over 7K and they were still in pretty good shape. The new road smart II's are supposed to be even better......(not a right size rear yet).

So I went with the road smarts again.
Ride safe...Jack

Jack:

Be sure to let us know if there is anything you need as you pull this together. I am so thrilled to see you doing this.

Frank:

Check out the Parsonian Hotel when you pas through. I lived there one winter while building a 345kV substation east of town for Kansas Gas & Electric. Parsons has a pretty amazing history. You probably know that Parsons is where the final shot on the final roil of Kodochrome film ever produced was shot.

If you really get the bug . . . slip down the road to Coffeyville . . . where the Dalton's last raid took place.

You guys are going to have the most wonderful time.

That is pretty good mileage Jack, I wonder if the difference in our loads makes a difference. Since I was carrying all my camp gear I had quite a bit more weight on board.

While my front end was up in the air to change the tire, I swung the steering head through its full range of motion. Time for new bearings.

My new BT023's should be here on Friday.
Still need to swap out the starter... thought I had that fixed last fall. Guess not....

Still need to think through the "bring along" list of parts, etc.

Yes, I used the interstate across Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Minnesota at high speed in a lot of heat. still, that tire had 5200 from the trip, plus a little under a thousand after that. I think the severe tears are from a couple of hard stops doing spring riding around idiots in cages.

My S2 is on its way to Austin, with Jay taking care of it 'til our arrival. I was working on it until the last minute. Not happy about my working-to-deadline habits.
I tried to do the bend in the kickstand and fear it will be dragging but ran out of time to change it. Anyone have a spare?
We're going to be max-ing out the load-carrying capabilities, two-up with tent and camping gear. Hope the isolators don't collapse in protest. Flying out a week from today!

Sporty.....I have a spare with a "bend" already done.....had it bent at a local welding shop.........just copied the one I already had. Let me know if interested and I will look for it......(I have parts in 3 places).

I totally understand the working to deadline........been practicing for years.

You're ahead of me! I need to swap a belt, decided to swap iso's since the bike has 20k on it, and finding the bolts are frozen. I should've realized that before now... I have a kickstands that I've been wanting to bend. More than happy to bring it along.

Thanks Roger. I just sent Jack a PM. I'll take him up on his.
Those bolts are a bitch. Needs an impact wrench, for sure. The wide shoulder under the bolt-head creates an enormous amount of friction compared to the size of the allen wrench.
FYI, I used a ready-rod connector as the "allen wrench" for the isolators.
And remind me to square up for the paint screens, as my painter (me) deemed them to be very useful.

You all are way ahead of me. I just have not had the time. I have Lynn's XB ready to go save mounting her saddlebags. The S2T has the same tires as last year (still good save some cupping in the front) but I need to change the belt, although I toyed with seeing how far I can go with the current belt... Maybe Mike can chime in.

I have a vibration I have not been able to isolate but that will not stop me.

It is great to see everyone getting ready and excited about the S2 Gathering. I look forward to seeing everyone. I bet it will be a real treat with Loren and Meribeth running things.
