A long time ago (in a galaxy far away) I cheaply acquired an X1 header with silver ceramic coating. This month, finally put it on. Wow, does that coating change the amount of heat that's felt coming off the pipe. Having taken off the M2 heat shield, I did get the old 'roast shank' effect occasionally. Now the pipe emits so much less heat that, immediately after riding, I could hold my bare hand right next to the pipe (1/4" away) pretty much indefinitely, without feeling any burn. To me, its amazing. To anybody considering ceramic coating, go for it! If I'd known what a difference it made, I'd a done it long ago...easily worth it.
But the real reason I got the X1 header on my M2 was to try the Air/Fuel gauge 'real-time' tuning that Buellistic and others talk about. I got a wide-band kit, sensor, wiring and gauge. The gauge came without much mounting stuff, no cup, just two screws coming out the back, and a little square-bent piece of metal, that fits under and up the sides of the gauge.
How did you mount the gauge? Or any ideas?
Also, the instructions say the sensor need to be 18" down from the exhaust port. The X1 header bung is like 2" down, will this change the readings or burn up the sensor? The kit looks about like this, except my gauge has a regular analog needle:
