This is just a random rave...

I ran some numbers yesterday... Bimota made 453 DB1 machines in the 1980's.... MV Agusta made only 186 disc brake 750 Sports in the 1970's. These machines are both now hard to get, command huge prices and are still going up. But they seem downright common compared to the Buell production numbers!!!

Buell made only 102 4 Speed RS1200 machines in 1989/90... and that was (bar the 114 RSS bikes) the most common product of the Buell Motor Company!

I think all the bikes, RR1000, RR1200, RS1200, RS1200/5 and RSS1200 are all still very unappreciated and way undervalued.

My advice is... if you ever want one GET ONE NOW as they can only go up hugely in valve in the next 10 to 15 years.

They have a lot going for them.
Hand made. Rare and expensive when they were new. They did what they did well.
Well publicized in their time.
The Buell MotorCYCLE Company then went on to build some 136 THOUSAND bikes... which means we have a very large pool of people who have owned Buells. In the years to come some of them will want another Buell and set their sights on an early pre 1994 bike. With only 441 of them built they will be in demand.

I am glad to have mine!!
End of rave!

Gavin
RS1200 1990 in Blue, number 59

You start a rant like that and don't bother posting pictures? What's wrong with you?

Here's one of the California kit bikes: an RS1200-5 with 3,900 miles.

The rest of the pictures and story here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/644048.html

I'd like to see some of the others. They seem to be scattered all over the archives and I wonder how many owners are even active here.

Then of course, there was this bike in Topeka, Kansas:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/17/ 645301.html?1313633896

It's sold now (checked it two nights ago).

Had it been a different color, it would have been mine.

Heck, if it had been 1000 miles closer to home, I'd have probably still bought it.

It was BARELY enough trouble and cash to keep me from buying it. I may regret it some day. I think I'm already starting to regret it.

I was holding my cash and space for another bike and the owner changed his mind. Damnit.

Here's my 1992 RS. It was factory ordered with the RSS dash and oil cooler. It was also the 1992 Daytona show bike.

Wasn't that white RR built for Danny Sullivan? I believe the current owner is in San Diego. In any case I know of one each RR1000 and RR1200 in San Diego.

Just doing a blanket search for the RR1200 on yahoo brought this up. Another that isn't in the U.S. anymore. C'mon people buy these before Basti does!

Great that my thread lives!!! lol

Thanks Steve (Murgatroid) for posting your 1992 RS1200 picture and the information that it was special ordered from the factory with those special bits. That's great info to know for the future of the Buell Motor Company history that that kind of thing was done.
Very nice bike!

441 Buell's built in total, and Bimota made 453 DB1 machines.... still amazes me!!

Later

Nice thread and photos, Thanks! I fell in lust with the Blue and White RR1000 that appeared on the cover of a magazine in the mid 80's. (still have a copy, somewhere)

Man I love that RSS1200. That's one I don't remember seeing.
I caught a look at most of the others, at the MC Show, and also worked one block away from Dudley-Perkins for a long time.

The RSS was a very pretty bike. It came about because the Japanese importer wanted something different and when you buy a third of a companies annual production you get what you want. The only odd thing on them was the footpegs; they didn't fold up.

Dont worry guys all my bikes came original in the 80`s / 90`s to Europe / Germany and therfore have their special history to the European Market. Thats one of my special points in the collection.
I havent bought a Buell in the U.S. (till now)
Best wishes
Basti
And if some of you know a good RR1000 I might import a Buell from the U.S. for the first time

Good pla ce to hunt because . . .except for Japan . . . that's where many, I think most, of them were sold.

The story of Erik and TÜV is still one of the funniest.

TÜV won.

That's an accurate statement.

You can imagine how damned entertaining it was.

Folks still keel over with laughter when I tell that story . . . well, all but one . . . he still thinks he was right.

TUV did not like the direction the exhaust pointed. Said it would cause the rear tire to overheat. Erik proved them wrong. They didn't care because they are right even when they are wrong. It would, probably still does, get the big guy pretty worked up.
