I know this one came up on Ebay a while back. Now it is at a local Kia dealership. It really should be in a museum for safe keeping. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/mcd/26446326 83.html

The fellow with whom I spoke knew what was on a sheet of paper, not even the shop it came from.

The history of that bike is in numerous places on the web, including here:

http://raresportbikesforsale.com/bullish-on-buell- 1989-buell-rr1200-battletwin/

I talked to the owner's sales agent about it, around 6 months ago when it was listed in Los Angeles Craigslist.

If you hunt around and find some of the larger picture sets, you quickly realize that it's not a 'new motorcycle.' You'll see lightly corroded fasteners and other hardware--ie: it's not been stored in a climate-controlled office collecting dust but, rather, cold, damp warehouses or garages.

It's a very nice bike. It's a very nice $18-20K bike but, I just don't see it going $27K. The comparison they're using to being a modern-day Vincent came from me during the phone conversation I had with the agent trying to sell it. Funny seeing it used in their ads now.

I suspect they aren't really trying to sell it--just fishing and if somebody takes the hook...

Hi, this bike came from Kamloops Harley-Davidson here in B.C. The bike was mounted on out wall for years, it has never been registered. we still had the original NIVIS. We sold it to a guy early this year.
All the best

Do you mean "for how much?" or do you mean "why in the heck did you sell it to him?"

I'm offering $0 to their $27K price. So if we meet in the middle, I'm good with that.

Meet in the middle would be about the price I'd expect this, at the top of the range, to go for.

The first thing I'd do is find out who signed "Erik Buell" on the bike. That'd be an interesting tidbit and story to go with it.

It **may** have been Erik but, having seen his signature a couple times, something perked up the moment I saw it.

Putting bikes on eBay allows a seller to learn what their motorbike will not bring.

Then it moves to Craigslist for a second showing.

As this forum is the longest lived and most faithful in things Buell, the knowledge on collectibles is here. Always bring the collectibles here first. They may not sell immediately, but the jungle drums get the word out.

It's not an RR1000. It doesn't have the XR1000 engine. It soesn't equal the RR1000 in value or collectibility, though it is certainly desirable.

Were it mine, I'd donate it to a particular museum now being put together, 501c3, etc. For my own vanity. But, since it will stay with its current owner at this price, perhaps I'll just sweep a few parts together in my garage and build an RR1000 clone.

None but those who know will care.

A real collectible, with history, would be that green machine in the back room of a certain shop in CO, arguably one of the most collectible, certainly one with a specific and noted history, in the production series.

Hahaha........ Precisely why I don't think I could ever sell it.

Kinda cool ........ First Buell to ever turn a wheel in many states.

And........ Still a great bike!!!

In the collecting game, the greater share of the value of any significant collector bike is in the provenance - who sat in the seat before you, and experienced the same vehicle, is the history documented, this can make a massive difference to the price the motorcycle commands.

Make sure you have a collection of pictures and documents, maybe a journal of its use, before your heirs take ownership and auction it off.

It will always be a great bike, and well known to the Buell community.

I dunno, Court...you have any photos or documentation for yours? ; )

and that *could* be Erik's signature...maybe it was realllly cold and he was shivering uncontrollably. Its still a nice bike...at the "somewhere in the middle" price point.

I'm still ticked at myself for passing when the Bank of Bern, KS sold a repossessed RR1200 for $4,500.

The bike would move at somewhere in the $15K or less range.

If I were selling it I'd do my dangling in the $20K range under the "I only need ONE buyer" thinking.

At $27,000, and at this time, you can likely go ahead and block up the concrete wall.

BUT . . . . then again . . . I've seen $100,000 offered for a Buell I wouldn't have paid over MSRP for.

Life's strange.

1190RS #001 is safe at home with George Barber. . . .so we know it will be going nowhere.

I would doubt Trev Deeley would have fudged Erik's signature on his bike. Erik was up at the only Canadian distributor's dealership (Trev's) and his museum quite a few times.Trev seperated the Buells from the Harleys for quite a few years in his "House of Buell" building.
I believe the bike is genuine.

The grand opening of Trev's house of Buell was where I met Erik for the first time. I've got a picture somewhere...

The "House of Buell" was a great place to get your service work done. Stewart, Kimbo, and Scott where the people that made it work and the reason I bought my Buell in the first place. When the building was sold and Buell motorcycles where mixed in with the Harleys something was lost in the move.
I have visited many Harley/Buell dealerships in North America and the Buell owner is treated like a waste of time by the dealership. I'm not telling anything that Buell owners don't already know.

Stewart was an amazing guy and played a key role in many of the amazing Buell things that took place, officially and unofficially, with Buell. I always enjoyed working with him.
