What's the widest rear tire you can get on a m2 Buell cyclone? Before you get into heavy modifications. My girl would really like to customize hers a bit but nothing to crazy. Really liking the look of one of the members bikes. Didn't get back to me when I pm'd him. He has a 240 tire on the rear. Really curious about the front end. Looks like fork covers and maybe an Aprilla headlight. Tank looks altered also. | ||

You're right that the belt looks like a flat shoelace. The swing are also looks like it is not the standard steel swing arm or an S3 or X1 Aluminum unit. Fat tires like to go in a straight line. Other than looks, why muck up the handling? | ||

You won't get a 240 on anything stock. I've got a '99 X1 and a 190 is the widest that will fit on there with the cast wheels. And I won't go with the 190 again. It handles alright but the 180 feels better. | ||

Wider tires just cost more money and no real performance gain since the wheel was really meant for a 170, they end up cupping the tire a little funky. | ||

Im glad to see someone offer up advise on what will fit the stock stuff for the others, guys, the dudes girl wants to do it, maybe she doesnt care about cornering as well as the stock can, who cares, its her bike | ||

Thanx for the input folks. Hybridmomentspass has it right. My girl ain't gonna ride it that hard. She likes the fat tire look. Makes her happy. That in turn makes me happy  So lemme see what I can take from this... The 190 will probably fit on the M2. With a thinner belt or chain I could probably get a 200 or maybe a 220 on her? I can probably get a set of pulleys and thin belt easy enough. What do you guys think of the front end... What kinda front end? The light? I'm thinking stock with fork covers... Any ideas on that? | ||

how about a raked out springer, spool hub with spoked rim, skinny 19" tire....will go perfectly with the 220 rear | ||

german guy built it, i think it is a 180 up front, its a ducati monster headlight and i think those are fork covers over stock m2 forks. | ||

If she's got a stock size tire (170) put on a 190 and see if that satisfies her. A 180 darn near rubs the belt with PM wheels, not sure about the cast ones. I would not recommend a skinnier belt. I can't see it lasting very long. If you're looking at 200+, you're talking about replacing the swingarm, as in the above pic. | ||

Anyone have an idea on where to find them kinda fork covers? I noticed that one post after the pics the fella put a youtube link to a video of the bike. The bike has no belt in the video... I wonder if it was during the mock up or the fit was an issue. I looked for rubbing on the tire. Doesn't appear to be any. | ||

For anyone who is interested here is what we're starting with. Was considering making a chopper out of it. My girl liked er' and this is the rest of the story. Exploring some options on cleaning it up a bit and making it her own. It's going in for paint in the next couple a weeks. Trying to decide between blazing orange and charcoal grey. | ||

That pic above looks like the pulleys are offset. Notice the front sprocket cover won't fit? Notice also, that the reinforcing dingus is removed? So not only is the belt narrower, but also, pushed out away. Do you suppose it's a blast belt? | ||

I vote charcoal grey. I painted my first motorcycle (a CB360) charcoal grey. It was a thing of beauty. | ||

I can send you a decent pic of a 190 if you want it for comparison sake. She'll lose the inner fender I'm pretty sure. On the X1 I can barely get the tip of my pinky between the outside edge of the tire and the belt. If you want to go 200 or bigger she's probably looking at widening the rear wheel or buying a wider one and then all the fun stuff that goes along with it. | ||

Sweet headlight. Wonder what one like that costs? Might even fit under the stock flyscreen. I looked at putting the headlight from a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 on my Cyclone, but the $250 new was too much for me to stomach. Can I suggest trimming the fender way up, you can cut the section off that the plate is mounted to, then trim all the way up to the "box" that the electricals are in and remount the plate under the taillight using the existing hardware. Come up with some tasteful mods to the tail section too, so it doesn't look so humongous. Couple that slimmer tail with a 190 rear tire and she may see a bit more of the look she's interested in. The 99+ cyclone tail is so fat that... uh... that's a bad joke for another day. Anyway, slim the tail a bit and it will give an effect of a fatter tire as well. The bike at the top has a 96-98 tail and seat, they are much slimmer and that may be deceiving when considering the tire on there. It's cool that you are passing up the chopper project to let your girl ride a mostly stock Buell, thank you for not chopping a Buell! (Message edited by littlebuggles on April 26, 2011) | ||

Here's a 180 on mine with a S1 tail for comparison, the Tire looks huge to me with the skinny little tail on it.  An old school M2 tail (and seat) will be a direct bolt on affair, slimming the tail up a ton. They are out there, and come up for sale often enough. You will probably want to mod the seat though, cutting the foam down in the front to flatten it out and make it a easier reach to the ground. | ||

Natexlh1000... Seeing as the rubber on the rear is excellent anything in that area will probably be a winter project. Like I was saying about the video. The belt wasn't even on it... Maybe technical difficulties? Kyrocket... Most likely figure the tire issue out next season. Paint and a few other things are first on the list. Hootowl... Looking like Blazing orange. Gots some extra at the shop. Make for an easier choice. Littlebuggles... Glad it didn't get chopped to. So much to do with it with out stripping the engine out of it. BTW. Sweet looking bike! | ||

I talked with that guy from germany he is really nice and he said he is trying to make a kit to sell for the rear tire and swing setup. The swing he said is custom made and is stretched 2 inches. Im not sure when he will have them ready...if he is still doing it. The widest tire in a stock swingarm you can go is a 240 with a widened rim. You can put a 200 on a stock PM (though it will be pinched and not function quite right) and a baker or american sport bike chain conversion. The 240 still handles great! you can throw it down in curves pretty much as good as the stock 170! | ||
