The guy I sold my M2 to broke an exhaust stud on it and me and him are going to attempt to fix it tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make this go smoothly?

We do have the Jims stud removal tool from American Sport Bike.

and should we go to the H-D shop to get studs or can they be gotten at a auto parts store or something?

Use the jig and dimple the end of the broken stud with the supplied 1/4" bit.

Then use a 5/32 or 3/16 split point and drill till it breaks through the bottom of the stud then use the 1/4" bit.

Chase the threads carefully with a 5/16x18 tap.

You should get an actual exhaust stud from a dealer. Just tell them it is for a sportster of the same year.

If you say BUELL they can go "BRAIN DEAD" and they could even tell you that SPORTSTER parts do not fit on BUELLs ???

I've been told by the guy at the parts counter that they didn't have any Buell exhaust nuts in stock. I had him give me one for a sportster. He didn't even have to look up the part number, just walked in back, and came out with two of them. That was when I learned to ask for Sportster parts.

You couldn't pay me to put those cheap a$$ harley studs on my bike. I have broken like 12 of them and had to drill them out more than one time. I buy no harley parts unless there is no other option to get the part aftermarket. But buy what you like it's your bike. Only some of my bottom end is still HD parts. I bought all the after market parts i could get for this bike. My studs are a huge 10mm's over-sized because i kept snapping them like pretzel sticks. I took the heads to my friends race engine\machine shop and had him drill and tap the heads. That was 2 yrs ago and i have never had a problem since.

i pulled the head, put it in a vice and used an easy out on the front exhaust stud and did the motor mount that was busted off in the head at the same time...
big PITA!!!!!
i would have used the jig is it wasnt for the motor mount.
the guy i got the m2 from dumped the bike on the exhaust side and never did anyting to check out the problems it caused... there was a ton of stuff messed up.
anyway, all in all, my way worked well but if you dont wanna remove heads, jims makes the jig, sposed to work well... never tried it.
