I went to the paint shop and picked to new color for the S3T! Now that I have that color I need to pick a color for the frame and decide if I'm going to polish the primary and other parts.
Any input on a frame color would be nice! I was thinking a nice silver or maybe a flat black? Or paint it to match the plastics?
HMMMM?

depends on if you want to make it look modern or retro. Modern go with a textured black finish for the frame. You cant get any more slick looking than that.

personally I like the old look.

I love that color and the it is the color I want to do one of the S2s in. Do you do your own paint? Something I always wanted to learn. if only I had the space for a paint booth.

Frank

PS Keep an eye on the Colorado Buell Rider section under the Storm Fronts section of the badweb for some rides as spring gets closer.

Yea, I learned how to paint because I got burned by a paint shop a few years back...Long story short I paid $3200 to have a $300 HACK JOB paint! I picked up a few books and started to paint little things.
This was my first full paint job on a bike (I do miss that thing)1998 Honda ACE 750 (I made the exhaust as well)

me, id go with a brighter frame. silver, white, something. but what wheels do you have pm's? or will they be color matched to something also?

that color looks like it has plenty of pearl, but its still a darker shade blue. a dark frame will make the whole bike have a darker appearance. the silver would make the whole bike seem a shade brighter and probably help your eyes bring out the pearl.

this is assuming you have pm wheels. if they are the 3 spoke color matched then thats a whole different idea.

I do not have the PM wheels, I was going to color match the wheels to the frame.

"That seat looks uncomfortable!"
Yea when I took the photo the set was not complete.

The blue started as GM color, then we added a a black pearl and a silver pearl. The paint gus told me it will look amazing in the sun! With nice silver highlights and cool dark shadows.....I'm nervous...They told me that it is hard to spray this paint and have it come out uniform.

Beautiful color. Frame would look awesome in a light silver.

When painting pearls set all the body work up as though it was sitting on the bike and spray it all at once and together. That way the color / shades will flow from one piece to the next when mounted on the bike.

Great idea! I might need to make a run to the scrap yard and buy some pipe to make some stands. I have been hanging all the parts that I have painted. I'm a little nervous about this paint sense my paint guy said "It will be a hard color to spray for a beginner"

The bike S3T is a factory silver, with a dark Grey or silver frame and even darker wheels. I guess I should post some before Photos for everyone to see???
One question to all the S3 guys. The front fairing has some cracks 4 in all, but it has no sings of impact. It looks to me that the fairing cracked from the vibrations...Maybe?? I will post up some photos later this evening.

This is the bike I'm starting with. I do have the hard bags as well with the large covers.

And the cracks.

Personally, I'd go retro.

White frame, white wheels.

If you really want it to pop, put some blue pearl in the white, like the Ice White Pearl bodywork. Not a lot...just enough to make people double-take when its in the sun ; )

But...I'm biased. My S2 has a white frame and white wheels, and my S1W is Ice White Pearl with a white frame and wheels.

That bike is way nice!

I think I will go with a light silver for the frame. Close to the stock color of the bike. Match the wheels to the frame.

97s3tcolorado, these are yours if you want them. I also have a frame that I am going to chuck (with title) and some other small parts I cannot use.

the headers are easy to do if there the s/s ones. just pull them off and buff them with green buffing compound and a bench buffer. they will look like chrome in no time. i did mine on an 8 in. buffer in about a half hour, then engine heat does the rest.

The paint that 97s3tcolorado is using looks great in person. I think that or a variant will be the color for the S2 project.

Dennis, good to meet and talk to you today. Nothing like a couple of tuber guys talking about their bikes.
