Me too. They're crap. Go aftermarket.

But I realllly like the OEM look, with those huge external and over the case shift linkages. So sexy looking.

Judddooo CHOP!

The pushrods came in from Dan today, so I got in beast mode and slapped everything together. Took it for a little spin at midnight. Runs real good, but I think the timing is either to far advanced or im getting the slightest bit of knock. I didnt take the motor above 2,500 rpm.... I'm going to dump some seafoam in and fill the tank with premium tomorrow.

I had this thing apart for 10 days, and I already forgot how much damn torque it has.

Now i just have to wait for new exhaust wrap and a few other things, like new grips, levers, and rear brake pads.

Major thanks to Buellistic, for all his time and help.

Cool! From my experience, you will find you need less advance now you have a credible squish band...

Plus with the extra compression, for sure. I set the Hi4 ignition up the way it came off...however I've never set the timing on this bike myself. I'm assuming it needs to be ~around~ 28* or so.

Recommendations?

If it were me, I would first set the static timing, then pick the least advance curve (I run curve 4 on my Dyna 2000) - I have a similar build to you...

Where is the best place to buy brakes? And what do you recommend? I'm just replacing the rear's for now, as the fronts are good.

EBC sintered is probably what I'll be getting i think/...

Did they change to a different caliper design in 98? For 98 and up s1's i can find a few different types of EBC brakes, but the 97 s1 only has listed simple organic pads...

=[

Just finished welding my exhaust back together. Old shakey motor had cracked the front and rear tubes apart. Sigh... Now where is that new heat wrap?
