I just found a 1999 Buell S3T with 80 original miles (you read correctly) from the original owner on our local craigslist. The guy rode it into a ditch shortly after buying it in 1999, didn't hurt the bike or himself much. Had the minor cosmetics fixed, and let it sat in his garage every since. His state tags and stickers all said 2000 on them, so it has literally been sitting for 10 years. It is cherry. I realize with the amount of sitting it has done, that there will be some work to be done on it, but am hoping that major seals will not blow out. It is a beauty, and I plan on using it to replace my current 1999 S3 that now is getting close to 20,000 miles (although still a daily rider with no problems). I may keep both for spare parts, but may sell one too. I'll deal with that when the wife starts to complain about the motorcycle collection.

You're considering replacing a bike with 20,000 miles? It's all good I guess, but if these bike are properly taken care of, they'll last for 100,000+. butch has 132,000+ on his S2, as well as LaFayette with 108,000+ on his S3, and I've got 50,xxx on my S2. There's several others out there who are high-milers as well. I can understand you wanting a cherry bike, but don't part out a perfectly good bike with only 20k miles. Most likely that 80 mi S3 will need more work than your current one.

That 20k mile bike is junk. I tell you what. I'll do you a HUGE favor.

I'll drive to VA. Pick up your old S3 and properly dispose of it for you.

Don't listen to these guys, the bike ain't with it's weight in scrap metal. And it is hazardous waist.

So let me do the dirty work for you!

I wouldn't be using a 20km daily rider as a 'parts bike'. That's absurd.

That said, nice find on the 80 mile example. What was the asking price, if you don't me asking?

A 10 year old bike with 80 miles is going to give you more trouble than a 10 year old bike with 20,000 miles..

Ha Ha, you guys are too much. Thought you fellow Old Schoolers would appreciate it. It would be a sin to part out any Buell, and that is why I couldn't let this one sit around on Craigslist and risk that happening to it. Yeah, I know they can take the high mileage, and my 20,000 mile Buell has many nice upgrades to it to make sure the high mileage is met. It also has a NRHS 1250 kit and a Mikuni carb on it that make it run WAY better than it used to. The bugs were worked out a few years ago, and it has been a trouble free bike every since. I don't know how I am going to deal with the extra bike yet, I just reacted quick to advertisement and after I put a few miles on it and see how time in storage has treated her I will decide what to do. The good thing is that winter is just around the corner and it will give me another project to work on . I think I'll keep this one mostly stock though, as it really is just a beautiful machine. I'll post pics soon.

Also, if and when the time comes to sell one of the S3's, I'll make sure to post on this page. I most likely will only keep one of them. The low mileage one will most need some fluid servicing, rubber hose and seal, gasket, and other miscellaneous work before I can make much of an opinion. Looks like a solid machine though.

Scratching head..... I thought '99 was the first year of fuel injection on the S3's, yet your 20k has a Mikuni? Someone sort me out - un-confuse me.

It was common practice to get rid of the FI in favor of a carb... You are right, 99 was the first year for FI.

I wanna say that DDFI was an *option* on the '99 S3. I'll have to pull my old catalogs to be sure...if I can find 'em, that is.

Jason I really like your S3 in your profile picture. Is that the original paint? Or is that one of the select a skeem they had that year?
