Just bought a '99 X1, looks like something grenaded in the primary case. Tensioner is gone, primary cover is gone, also clutch shell and probably a couple other small pieces-parts. Was just wondering what years would interchange with the '99, also if Sportster parts would work also, if so what years? Thank you in advance... |

Your engine is the same as the EVO SPORTSTER ENGINE ... When you repair, BE SURE TO LEAVE OUT THE "SPRING PLATE" AKA GRENADE PLATE ... PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT, removing the SPRING PLATE "INFO" available upon request, just PM me ... |

I'll bet it was the tensioner shoe backing plate that let go. That part has been updated to have a thicker plate. There were gearing changes between 99 and 00, but the other guts are the same, with a few updated part numbers, like the detent plate and tensioner. Any 5 speed sportster part up to 2003 should fit. In fact, you may get better service if you tell them it is for a sportster. Buells have their own part numbers, and the parts guys I have dealt with are (obviously) more familiar with the HD diagrams and numbers. Parts are the same however. If I were you, I'd just ask for 2003 parts. |
