id my xb wheel swap a while back... I'm concerned about my rear brake, Mine is pretty half assed, it's wearing incorrectly and doesn't look great. how do you have yours mounted?

either the old style swingarm or the late model style, as i wouldnt mind switching to the late swingarm.

sorry its blurry but you can see the steel flat bar that was twisted 90* to hold the caliper. looks like crap and doesnt function that great either. and that bolt has vibrated out on me 3 times, even with locktite

Is it possible to rotate the caliper further to the swingarm? (nine o'clock)
and shorten the flat bar
or take a bigger piece ,is less vibration!
And can you show us a picture from the side of the mounting??

Is it a brembo caliper? If so, get a stock caliper bracket and trim each side until it fits and holds the caliper correctly over the rotor.

i may consider upgrading to the late style swing arm...

if so what will i need to make it work? my modded spacers will work still right? can i use a factory caliper and bracket and call it good?

i have the late style swingarm, on the brake side, the caliper bracket is still functioning as the spacer but i had it machined down .345". on the sprocket side im using a custom made spacer, its .4" wide. iv only been riding it with the new rear wheel for a few weeks but from what i can see and feel while riding it works great. ill post up some pics if you wanna see em.

nice cobra. : D

so did you have to machine any off of the caliper bracket? if so, how much? how thick is the spacer for the sprocket side? the caliper side?

Haha thanks, it's my dads : )...

So there was .345" machined off the outside(swingarm side) of the caliper bracket. I had the actual final measurement of the bracket but I'm not sure where it went. The spacer on the sprocket side is .4" wide, It also has has a smaller part that adapts the xb wheel bearings to the stock axle. The caliper side has an identical spacer/ adapter but it's mounted INSIDE the bearings, I had .4" turned off the bearing spacer that goes between the bearings so it would fit. I did it that way so I wouldn't have to machine more off the bracke and make a super thin spacer/adapter... I hope that makes sense...

can you get a shot of how the caliper bracket is mounted to the swingarm? so when you hit the brake the caliper doesnt just spin with the rotor?

The4ork, on the late style caliper bracket there's a bolt that threads into the bracket, with the head sticking out towards the swingarm, on the inside of the swingarm there's a slot machined for that bolt head to ride in. That is the stock set up. Even with the bracket being machined down, the slot in the swingarm was deep enough that it still works without any problems. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow...

heres the bracket as seen from the top, that nub you see on the bracket just in front of the front caliper mounting bolt is where the bolt head goes into the slot

from the front

and a better shot of the slot

excellent, ill have my rear wheel off in a few days to replace a bearing, ill measure the spacer i have for it, from eyeballing it looks to be about .4" if its not, hopefully its bigger so i can just take some material off.

this is of course after i get my hands on a swingarm/mount/bracket

ok i dont have my paper in front of me but here are some rough dimensions i took.

the width of the swingarm is 10.5" so i need 10" of wheel+spacer to fill the void.

the wheel itself with the rear sprocket (and spacer i have between the wheel and sprocket, unknown size as of right now) is 9"

so that leaves me with 1.5" of spacer required.

my spacer on the sptocket side measures 13/16" so in by my measurements the caliper bracket needs to be 11/16" when in reality its too big, beginning to "mushroom" and eating my wheel bearing.

so i took the caliper bracket aside, and marked where i need it to be machined in order to fit, and work correctly and hold the brake caliper like stock

ill post a pic later, im gonna go get the bracket

question tho, is the late swingarm the same size in width for the wheel (~10.5") than the early?

i took a measuring tape to mine just now. the rotor and sprocket are in the way so i cant get a super good measurement but just from eying it it was right at 10.5"
