order michelins... I was going to get the Pilot Road 2, but now thinking of just getting the Pilot Power 2. Any reason to go with one over the other? also planning on going with a 190 on my 99 X1 WITH XB wheels.... not sure if i should go with a 55 or 50?? any input would be great. THANKS! | ||

I run Pilot Roads on both the XB and X1 and love them. I believe that you will see about double the miles out of the Roads vs. the Powers. | ||

Here is what I think I've learned from reading up on them. Disclaimer - from memory. Pilot Power is for more aggressive track-like riding. Less rain groove and more rubber meets the road. Pilot Roads are for the more practical every day riding, but still have ability to do aggressive when called upon. More rain groove, equals less rubber meets the road. Both Dual compound tires but Pilot Power has a softer center then the Pilot Roads. Both have soft outsides. Pilot Power heat up quicker but don't last as long as Pilot Roads. | ||

I had PP's (orginal not PP2) on my R1 thru last winter lotsa rain and was quite impressed with them,specially for a sport tyre. I currently have a 190 Pilot road 2 on the X1 and am also impressed with its handling rain or shine. I would pick the PR2 out of the two for the Buell. | ||

thanks- I really want the Road 2 but the place i am trying to order them from carries every tire in every size EXCEPT the REAR Road 2... they only carry it in a 160. WTF | ||

I just came to work on my X1 with continental race attacks on it at 130 mph. It is 28 degrees now. These tires warm up so fast it is scary. within 2 blocks they are sticky! | ||

i have pilot road 2s on my x1 with the stock rims, best tire ever! plan to get a set on the XB wheels when i'm done with the swap. IMHO, i'd stick with a 180 for the rear. just a thought. | ||

I've been through a few sets of the Pilot Road 2s now and they are a great tyre. Longer life than anything else I've tried and I do a lot of miles. Stick with the 170. There is no advantage to going to a 190. In fact, the handling may not be what you want. | ||

Ended up ordering the Road 2 tires. Glad everyone had good luck with them. Stock is 170 on a tuber 5" tuber wheel, 180 is stock on my new 5.5" XB wheel.... but i want the widest tire i can get, which is a 190 in the Road 2 and should just clear my belt. I ride, but dont ride hard enough to have the handling that effected. Ill find out. There are guys running 200 on there stock XB wheel and have no complaints. If i could, id love a 240 out back... but then i dont think i would like the handling... but would look good  | ||

190 will LOOK wider than a 180, by roughly 10mm, but a 180 will have a wider contact patch. food for thought. | ||

Actually a 240 would not look any wider than a 170 if you could actually mount it on a stock rim...which is the point to not going with a 190: Michelin makes them to only fit a 5.5" or 6" rim (6" preferred), so it will have an odd profile on the 5" (will likely not appear any wider than a 180 on the same rim, and have a messed up profile for handling), and arguably will not be safe. I would think that a reputable shop would not want to mount said tire onto said rim since it is outside of the tire makers specs... I do hope it's safe for you, I wouldn't do it. | ||

The tyre handles ok,well pretty good for being soo oversize,i don't ride it softly. It does have a messed up profile,I can't get rid of the chicken strips and it looks no wider than a 180....bring on the 170. Purpony ,Don't know how much room will between tyre and belt with the XB wheels,theres about 5mm on mine, | ||
