Most of the tubers I've seen advertised are modded to varying degrees (seats, exhausts, "race ECM's", oil coolers, etc). I think I'd rather have one that was pretty stock. Was there really a need to mod these to "fix" deficiencies from the factory, or is it just the quest to wring a little more out of them?

Well, in my case one of the first things I did was change the muffler and air filter. Once you do that you HAVE to put in the race ECM or you'll run lean and backfire everywhere you go. I still have all the stock stuff just in case but the OEM muffler weighs a ton. Lots of things are just cosmetic and easily changed such as seats, mirrors, under seat panels etc.

Are you willing to travel or have one shipped? That will greatly increase your chances on getting what you want but will also decrease your chances on a test ride. There are plenty of Badwebbers that would check out a bike local to them for you if you'd ask. Just a thought.

kyrocket - did you make the changes because it wasn't running right without? Just wondering if they worked ok stock or not.

I'm doing a bit of a road trip (250 miles) Saturday to check one out, take it for a ride etc. Will be ready to buy if it all looks/rides good - but there's only so much you can tell from a brief demo ride...

What is the difference between the 8 and 7 pin (besides the number of pins/connector)?

I don't remember where I found that info, but from my understanding the '96 has a different curve and advance.

The connector itself isn't much the issue; there used to be 8-7 pin adapters available, but I can't remember the name of the company. My details aren't that great right now, eh?

I think FMJ@JT&S is the one that told me about the adapters. You might ask him if he can source them.

On my 95 I changed the connector from a 7 to an eight because even the 8 pin only uses 7 pins. Disassembled the 7 pin connector on the chassis wiring installed 8 pin connector in its place and installed the 8 pin ecm.. Uses HD connector parts...
