anyone ever built or seen a custome header? I guess if I cant come up with anything I could have my uncle build a header. If anyone has any pics of a custom header Id like to see some pics.

the built of an exhaust system requires studies at the dyno, you can't just build an exhaust system from scratch like this.
length, diameter, back pressure, shape, it all changes the performances of your bike.
if I were in you, unless you're a technician, I'd abandon the idea...

Actually if you have the dimensions of a proven design that you want to emulate and your dad (correction, uncle) is a competent fabricator, there is no reason that you can’t replicate it with your own design tweaks.

You do not have to think inside the box like others and just buy everything you want off the shelf.

More power to you, let me know of you need some real advice.

i have seen guys take a stock X1 header and modify it to look like the RACE header, they look good and allowed them to moify the lower mount for more strengh.

but i think it was said best in another thread... "whana reinvent the wheel?"

Hey, we just might have to reinvent the wheel. The guys that invented ours are no longer given a place or a paycheck to do so, so, it kinda gets passed on to us : )

Give it hell, Scottorious.

If it were not for those of us that constantly study and reinvent the wheel; we would all be still living if Fred Flintstone’s world.

By the way, isn’t doing things different, “daring to be different”.

And another thing, Betty Rubble was hot, for a cartoon anyway!!!!

Is that one of those wheels that flexes so you still get a smooth ride with no air in the tires?

yuppers, neat to see in action over bumps. My point in the thread was that even the wheel can be re-invented and that we should encourge anyone who wants to give it a shot. I mean come on! Its not like he wants to put fuel in the frame or something!

People do it all the time on Sportsters. While most of them do it with no regard to performance, with a bit of research, time, and quality work, it can be done. I thought about it and still do from time to time, but I didn't want to foot the bill right now.

Ahhh a tweel havent seen one of those since Michelin invented it! And on a military app nice!

custom headers can be made!

My brother has "A REAL GHOSTRIDER BIKE" from the movie and his headers are modified factory headers, They are modified so the exhaust comes out under the seat!

I also have photo proof of this bike. Want to see! PM... me, there are only 7 in existence.

Doughnut – that is exactly what I was saying in my warped and sarcastic way!!!

If advise is dispensed that accelerator pumps are useless if you just drive at a constant speed and straight pipes are beneficial to enhancing performance (and saving lives); why would anyone discourage someone from fabricating a header?

Unless there is just a phobia of playing with wiggly tubing…It actually can be cathartic!

Go Scott, Go!!!!

I do like the idea of just taking a stock pipe and lengthening the primarys and even including a better collector than what was stock. I cant say for sure but there could be an improvement in just hacking off the stock collector and welding on a better designed collector. Any thoughts on that?

I thought about doing that with a stock S2 header one time. Cut off the collector, weld in 1 7/8" pipes extended with 90* angle to bring them to the back, weld a new collector w/ 2.5" outlet, then a stainless Megs r-cone megaphone, and viola! A stainless Force that still fits the stock air cleaner.

I want a header with separate head pipes that are held onto the collector with a spring-and-hook arrangement. I figure this would take most of the stress out of the mounting system and keep the pipes from cracking at the collector.

What do you all think about this idea?

Phelan – I played in that sandbox years ago, but never tested the result on a dyno…..
