Yeah, gratitude to generous friends...
What might I need to know about this new bike?
What are the "must do" upgrades/accessories for it?
I had a Uly a couple of years ago... loved it.

congrats on the new bike, you should thank your friend, I have never owned an S1, I expect depending on mileage you will want to check the oil pump gear, the clutch spring plate(remove) check the belt and Isos, wheel bearings, steering head bearings, and muffler mount hardware

Some S1 guys should check in, I would look at other things depending on milage and general condition...

I guess that if someone likes you enough to give you an S1W then first thing would be to take them to dinner, buy them a nice bottle of their favorite refreshment or something. : )

After that, ask them what they have done to it? Find out about maintenance, upgrades, etc. Carb jetting, intake and exhaust mods are the norm. Check your shock and mount as well as the exhaust hanger which have recalls and likely have been done.

How many miles on it and has it been used regularly? If it hasn't been sitting too long, check the fluids and take her for a ride. She will let you know if there are any issues and we can then help from there.

Great bike. Give us more details please.

Harley dealers will do factory updates to your bike for free - there are at least 8 updates on my 1997 S1 the local dealer is doing now

this page is pretty good as well for updates

Ride and enjoy : )

Check it over like any other used vehicle. Paper rockerbox gaskets like to dry out and leak. Base gaskets can do the same, but not as often. As noted above, get as much info as you can on its history.

Also...and wow, it's been a while since I updated it - I do maintain an S1 owners registry. PM me your full VIN, bike miles, colors, wheels, solo or twin tail, and any major mods and I can add the bike to the registry. Also with your VIN, I (since I work at a dealer) will run it for recalls for you.

If I can find it. heheh.

>>>As noted above, get as much info as you can on its history.

If you want to send me the VIN (NOTE: Some folks do not want to send me their VIN because they think I am going to come to their house and steal their motorcycle... so I'd treat this request with GREAT CAUTION) I'd be happy to tell you a LOT about your bike.

I **think** . . .(need to check as I am in the process of divesting myself of TONS of Buell gear) that I have one of the updated primary chain tensioners new in the box sitting about.

You're going to love the bike.

BTW, I'll vouch for the validity and exceptional service of both RatBuell (Joe Goatz) and Court Canfield who posted above. Top notch guys.

Well, I've never met Joe, but I'll tell you this about Court: don't take him up on his offer to "show you around New York" unless you're wearing track shoes, enjoy dumpster-diving, and don't mind parking a pickup truck on the sidewalk.

Other than that, he's just an average guy...

Hey there,
Got really busy all of a sudden and haven't even had a chance to get this bike in order. Here's a pic below... actually, after trying 10 times.. I must be retarded, as It still tells me the dimensions are too big. Ill figure it out later. Ugh
It has 16,500 miles on it and looks to be in great shape. New tires and all.
