took the bowl off and rejetted the carb... it had a 190 in there, and put in a 195.

the other one was a 48

sound about right? runs a little better, no noticeable difference in power, but the plugs are nice and brown instead of brownish white now : )

From your description of the plugs your pilot jet is one size too large.

I thought brownish white is better than just brown...

For what it is worth:

1997 S3T with no hop up work done, JUST TUNING ...

Timing mark(static)just coming into the rear of the timing plug hole ...

Idle mixture 2 1/2 turns out from seat ...

#48 low speed ...

#200 high speed ...

Jetting gives 12 to one fuel air ratio ...

Run OEM heat range in both cylinders gaped at 0.030 inch ...

Run a ECONO FORCE AIR CLEANER(OEM snorkel with a K&N Tapered Oval RC-3860 air filter inside the air box so that "i" can ride in the "RAIN") ...

"SORRY", but "i" forgot to tell you'll:

M2 needle raised 0.050 inch ...

Slide RADIOUS'ed and slide hole drilled out ...

I'm in the midst of making changes on my 00' M2 so I can tell you what's not quite right because that's where I am now.

#45 slow speed, 3 turns out
#200 High
No washers under the needle

What I have is something close, but not right and it's obvious when it's hot that it's not right, but it will idle though cruising is just audibly lean. I'm using the Buell race kit air cleaner and Supertrapp.

I have a #48 jet to install and i'll turn the mixture screw out 2 1/2 turns.
I'm leaving the #200 main jet
And I just picked up 2 – #4 brass washers that measure .05" together to put under the stock needle.

my bike used to hesitate a bit when whacking open the throttle, raising the needle by putting the washer under the clip lessened the hesitation
