I have a feeling this topic has been discussed before but...I'm new to the forum... I bought my S1 a couple months ago. I have paperwork from the previous owner that proves the oil was changed by HD dealership with HD product. Its about time, or past time, for an oil change. Question - How many of you guys are running a synthetic? What are you using? I've used Castrol and Amsoil synthetics in previous motorcycles and been satisfied. I'm a big fan of synthetics and have used them in all my other vehicles (4 wheels and 2). But for some reason, I am a little leary of putting synthetics in the Buell. Probably a silly concern. Let me know what you guys think. |

S1_fan, I have used Castrol Syntec in both my 96 S1 since new and my S2 which I have just recently switched over to Amsoil as a test for my own interests with good results so what ever you prefer I guess go ahead and use what you have used in the past and are comfortable with. There are still some old diehards that say not to use synthetics for one reason or the other but don`t pay them any mind as nothing is substantiated that I can find. Welcome to the world of Buell, enjoy your S1 |

I'm still experimenting with engine oils till I find one that suits my fancy. The process would probably go faster if I stopped buying it by the case As for the tranny/primary, I'll be sticking with Formula+ (or SportTrans as some know it) |

I use Synthetic in all of my bikes' with no problems. Was using Mobil-1 but now Royal Purple 20w-50 the topic is FLUIDS and i'd like to elaborate about the F+R Brake fluids that should be flushed at least ONCE a year. Fork oil as well should be replaced ONCE a year.Don't forget the PRIMARY fluid, yep,at least ONCE a year. Too many motorcyclists neglect the other important FLUIDS Oh yeah, one last FLUID....blinker fluid

If you do have the extra cooling fan you will need to get a bottle of prop wash too! |

"Fork oil as well should be replaced ONCE a year." Is that really necessary? I know it won't hurt to change the fluids as often as possible but once a year for most folks means around every 3K-4K miles. Shouldn't it be more a function of miles rather than elapsed time? Mine has just starting to feel a little soft but I have got 16K on my '00 X1. |

I do fork oil about every 5,000 miles. I can tell a difference. 16K it's time |

I use the Mobil V-Twin, not to be confused with plain Mobil one. it's usually in a different section of the chain stores. |
