whats everyone prefer as far as exhaust, is a full system needed. D&D or force or supertrapp the best? is supertrap open to the most tuning possibilties?

I went with a D&D because it doesn't require repacking like the V&H, it doesn't break constantly like the force, and it sounds badass. I've never heard or seen a supertrap though.

There was an actual comparo done in the old Buell magazine, it's around somewhere.
The Race Header/Muffler and the SuperTrapp were both about as good as anything, it mostly depends on what rpm you want the power to be at. (No one brand 'won' all across the powerband spectrum.)
Other issues are involved too, like breakage, spare parts for the breakage, weight, and is the company still in business.

also does anyone know how tuned the aftermarket exhausts are....i realize that every engine is different but are the exhausts built just as free flowing exhausts that make noise or are they tuned to use the pressure waves to our benefit?

scott
depends on the exhaust. I've used both the wileyco and the White Bros Eseries. Neither are particularly loud, but you could get an adapter that lets the WB pipe become a more or less straight pipe. The WB pipe is tunable by adding/subtracting discs like a supertrapp. The Wileco has internal baffling.

The Wileyco will crack the front mount part of the pipe if you don't repack it every couple years. So far the WB pipe is rock solid (30K or so miles). In my opinion, the Wileyco sounded and looks better, it just didn't wear as well. The first pipe went 8K or so before cracking , the second one was more like 2K.

The Wileyco carries a lifetime warranty if you buy it from an authorized dealer. Since I got mine on Ebay, I was outta luck.

Dennis Kirk was running a special on the V&H pipe.

As i recall, the kooks system made the most power over all of the other systems.

I was just looking at that old battle2win article last weekend actually.

I would have to see the results to believe it Matt. I think you're just biased : p. I love the Force exhaust but it breaks easily and the diagonal HamCam doesn't fit with it so I'll use my design pipe instead.

Go find a battle2win mag ross, it made more power than the buell pro series exhaust and the force. And it wont rattle itself apart like the force will.

And i might be a bit biased.

From the x1 files

"The sound is awesome, and the power is the way it was supposed to be. Battle2Win says it's the only pipe combo that has better numbers than the Buell Race! This mutha is solid as a block of unobtainium!! It is much smaller than the stock unit and the bracket is for real."

IIRC the KT and Kooks made more power than the Buell Race kit with the KT the highest IIRC, but that was the only two that did.

If Reg was around here he could tell us more and dig up the articles.

This was done with the XB but according to Al the X1/S3 has similar results.

If I had my choice, it would be a KT header with a megaphone muffler instead of the straightpipe. Instead, I'll be the only around with modified and tuned S2 header with a stainless megaphone muffler. It'll outperform them all! LOL.

I just put a Borla Carbon fiber on my M2 yesterday, fitted a 45 jet and adjusted the carb. A nice improvement in sound and feel. The borla has a nice deep sound and it quite light.

Psyclown, it's more of a do-it-yourself mod. Find a company like Megs and have them build you one. If you do a google search you can find a few companies that'll make megaphones any length and size for about $150. I'm still searching to find the best price, but I am doing header mods first, cutting the collector halfway and welding in a 3" diameter 90* elbow, with a 3"-2.5" transition, then having a custom-built slip-on megaphone at the end. And all in polished stainless...
