It figures my second post after "hello" is "HELP ME!". Bike in question is a 2000 X1. Has a forcewinder intake. The more spirited the ride, the more oil that ends up on the rear swingarm right side. I don't see oil at the cylinder bases, I don't see a leak from the oil tank. The only place I really see any oil is on the intake, and it is just a little bit. On the silver tube at the bottom of the forcewinder... Running HD synth in the bike as did the original owner.

Considering the XB rocker box update, but not before I figure out what is going on. Also, need to put the stock ECM back in the bike to get it through MD inspection. Any of you Marylander's think I will have any problem getting this bike through an inspection with a Vance and Hines pipe? Headers are wrapped as well.

Thanks to all of you for your time, really looking forward to spending some time on this bike.

PS I tried search, but I did not see anything that looked quite like what I am experiencing!

Do you have any pictures? Sounds like a rocker box gasket leak. Is the oil brown/black or is it a yellowish color? If it's yellowish it is coming from the breather. Pics would really help.

I will get some pics either tonight or later in the week. The oil is lighter in color... But you are right, pics are worth a thousand words!

Check you trans vent line that runs underneath your tail section! If it leaking from there you may very well have a crank shaft seal that is bad!

+1 on the tranny vent.

If this only happens on "spirited" rides you may have some water in your tranny. When it heats up, the steam carries some oil out with it. If you wash your motorcycle with the seat off and don't plug that hose above the oil tank, you could have hosed some water in there. Even if you leave the seat on, it is possible to get water in there if you hit it in the right spot with a strong jet of water.

Check your engine oil level. If you notice it going down, you may indeed have a bad crankshaft seal. Not terribly difficult to replace.
