I am trying to use ECM spy for the first time and the program can't find the port. Since I only have one port, (Jurrasic laptop) I checked to see that other applications didn't have the port seized and set them to manual. Does anyone know if ECM spy has unusual comm port requirements?

My laptop is a dinosaur as well but it works on mine although it seems a bit wonky at times, if its not finding the port you may have to re-plug in the usb cable and let your cpu find it again.

I did it a couple times but I'll give it a try again. I haven't ridden my S3 in several weeks now and was looking forward to resetting the TPS and taking it out for a ride.

Make sure to have the bike on and the kill switch on also. This kicked my but till I flipped the kill switch from off to on and did the autodetect function.

You also need drivers installed that will make ecmspy see your usb port as a com port. The drivers can be found in the downloads section of ecmspy.com

make sure you click the little keys icon in the software. I had all kinds of hair pulling comm port errors until I figured that out.

on the opening screen, there is a KEYS symbol... Click it and a drop down screen gives you a choice of closed loop mode, or open loop mode.

I'm thinking you want Open Loop Mode, in any case you should get a TPS change of values when you twist the throttle.

The Ignition must be on, and the Run switch must be on...You don't have to run the engine.

Keep plugging away...You will master it!

I pulled the ignition fuse and put it back in. Everything came up. TDman77 spent over an hour on the phone with me walking me through the program and sent me his X1 race maps. What an incredible tool and an incredible bunch of friends. Thanks fellow Badwebbers
