did a search but didn't come up with what I was looking for...

Is it a big job? could you swap it back?

Is there a step by step tech on this mod?

can you use an aftermarket s1 tail piece (plastic bit), what else would you need?

you have 2 choices,

spend money out the ass at trojan for their cf tail peice

OR

cut your frame and weld in the s1 tail

It's not too bad a job is you know a good welder or can do it yourself. For a good fit you have to cut the sub-frame and refab it, the S1 sub frame is a few inches shorter and angles up a bit more.

Once it's done, it's done unless you get really clever and fabricate a complete sub-frame and put some lugs on, then hack off the existing sub and add lugs to that as well. I imagine with enough time and/or some decent drafting/mechanical design talent or training it wouldn't be too bad...

I did know a guy who left his sub-frame alone and just used some rubber blocks to support the tail, it ended up with the tail-light sandwiched between the frame rail and the tail piece, looked okay. I wasn't willing to leave my bike looking like that.

The pre 99 M2 tail section is supposed to bolt right on, and it is a lot slimmer than the later model years tail. Seems like a few have had trouble getting the seat to fit just right. IMO the old seat could use some recontouring and it would be more comfortable and fit better.

I may have some pics on my old computer of the sub-frame mods I did to make the tail work, not sure where they'd be in the Knowledge Vault though...

I like the look of the stock s1 tail over the Trojan piece, nice though!

nice bike Littlebuggles, what bars / front end you got on there?

could I just fab the m2 sub frame and put on a tail piece like this...

The stock seat is too tall in the front, pushing up on your tender parts and making it more difficult to reach the ground than it ought to be.

Not so bad if it's modified a bit, flattened out to reduce pressure and allow more variation in position. I probably scooped it a little much back where the strap was since I can feel the plastic of the pan when sitting further back.





X1 front end, S1W spec bars, can't remember the manufacturer, I'll have to get back to you on that....

Yeah Mick's work looks great!

That second link you posted looks like a straight bolt on for the M2, the first is the stock S1 tail so you'd have to mod the sub-frame as Mick did to make it fit.

The prev maker of the bars (Crossroads) and other cnc'd bits is now owned by American Sport Bike if I recall correctly,

Very easy, forks and triple clamps plus headlight brackets and you're done.

Might take different axle spacers too but I don't think so, did mine six years ago so I forget.

Hey Xben12, I'm doing the swap this week on mine courtesy of Wilson's fork liquidation I took advantage of and will let you know for sure. I believe Littlebuggles is right and an easy swap out.

I did it a few years ago now and apart from the forks, triple clamps, headlight brackets you only need a front fender. The axle, spacers, brake caliper and bearings are all the same.

X1 forks are more adjustable with rebound as well as compression damping, easy swap .


thought I'd throw that in, and the stock M2 seat
is great, but the S1 seat looks better.

It came with the bike when I bought it. The previous owner had already hacked it up. If you end up doing the swap to s1 tail its a lot more comfortable than the stock s1 seat. Its more firm and tad wider. I still swap in the stocker every now and then for the looks and the ass bustin' experience.
