Both pretty optimistic on the prices. (It's less than what they're worth but higher than they're valued at.)
In my jurisdiction, collector vehicle plates bring insurance costs down 90%. Usually 25 years old but only 15 if there's less than 1500 made. I hope to be at the S2 Roundup with my collector plate on. Maybe that's when the prices will start going up.

Wow, so if I was in your jurastiction, with collector plates on the Buell, I could pay $16/yr for liability? LOL.

I have been looking for that tank bag for a while. I have a RKA that FMJ recommended and like it a lot but would like to have the Buell one. It appears to be better shaped to the tank cover.

Going from $1200/year to $120. $2 million coverage. But riding for pleasure only, not to work.
That Mo. Buell is a sweet deal.

Eric,

That's how I found all those.

It's actually located at www.searchtempest.com now since they changed the domain.

Eric, thanks for the link. I've always used the MASH at jaxed.com to search all CL, but it brings up eBay auctions too, which clouds things up a bit (only the bikes for sale though).

No way it's #0001, except maybe a factory custom originally for some special event or company. It's early enough of a '95 to have the original style front fender but too late to have the factory billet triple tree that the earlier S2s (like Frank's #35) had.

FMJ, you are correct my friend. I want to buy it, and will bid on it, but the 3,000 dollar paint job has to go.

I bet his reserve is close to 10K. He seems to be real proud of butchering a beautiful bike.

Hey All!!!

I purchased the bike in aforementioned craigslist St. Louis ad. We picked it up Sunday morning and it runs great! Gobs of torque!

This is my first Buell and I'll welcome any ideas or tips.

Not yet, it'll probably be here soon though. I've looking for a source for the Carbon Fiber pattern leather but only found one commercial source; nothing direct. I'm eager to seethe sample though 'cuz I'll probably go with that. I haven't found anything else that tickles my fancy yet except the previously mentioned material.

Ross, If the sample doesn't show soon let me know. I'm not a fan of the CF leather. I've never seen a CF cow and we do have a lot of cows here in Kansas. If I'm using leather I want it to look like leather.

I decided to completely recover the seat from Frank and not use any of the original covering. I'm doing the whole seat in new leather so color and textures match. I have the cover made, and did some double row top stitching on the seams as accents instead of piping. I like the look better and I think it is a richer look. I have the backrest bracket fabricated and working on repairing the cracks in the seat pan. I have come up with what I think will be very cool way to fasten or lock in the rear of the seat too, so the seat lock is not taking the load and stressing the fiberglass around the lock.

Apparently you haven't seem the only cow that matters- the cash cow! LOL. I like leather as much as the next guy, but I'ma Carbon Fiberaholic. I even have a custom tailored Carbon Fiber T shirt that I use as an undershirt when I wanna look spiffy.

I have done some searching and not had much luck either finding a source for CF embossed leather. Found one for CF embossed vinyl. What source did you find for the leather?

James, I have a couple of old home machines, that handle the heavy materials okay. Although for the double row top stitching I had to hand feed the material through one stroke at a time, because the pressure foot didn't have enough spring pressure to hold down the leather as the needles pulled back up out of the leather, which would cause the feed dogs to miss feed sometimes. So I hand powered the machine and helped out the pressure foot and feed dogs. A little tedious, but worth the results. I will post up photos when I get the project all wrapped up.

carbonimageltd.com is the one I found. I believe they are Corbin's source for the material as well.

Ross, I found a source here and contacted them for pricing. Here's what I got.

"Our retail price is $5.40/sf + tax if your in CA + shipping. Average hide size is 15 sf."

Looks like you would be pushing $90-$95 for the piece of leather. It would take about 5-6 ft^2 to do the seat but they have a min material size. Looks like they are selling a 1/4 hide. A cow hide runs 45 to 50+ ft^2.
