I sent him an offer on the Corbin and he accepted. He even threw in the shipping. I didn't buy the other parts though.

I learned from a master auction hunter that sometimes it's worth the while to PM them an offer for a piece. A lot of times, especially if they don't know what they have, they're not expecting to get as much as you offer. The worst they can say is no. I had a guy reject my offer one time but I ended up winning the auction at a lower price than I offered.

For those of you who were wondering . . .and perhaps a little miffed to have lost this eBay auction . . .I believe I may have saved you some grief.

I confess . . .I won this auction

S2 Parts on eBay

Even with the seller charging $150 for shipping and handling it seemed like a pretty good deal for all the parts involved . . .until they arrived here last week. The guy got too greedy and pocketed too much of the shipping and handling money. He used worn out re-used boxes (some had been used, cut up, turned inside out and used again with corners taped) - didn't even use strapping tape. I had a bad feeling about them when the Fedex driver brought them to the door. The driver was worried, too. He said that he would not have accepted packages packed so poorly if he had done the pickup.

In spite of the cheap and shabby boxing, there was no outward sign of damage . . .no punctures, no tears and no crushed corners. The tank cover and tank came through much as described. The cover, as expected, is badly scratched and scraped and needs to be completely refinished. The fuel tank was fine. The front fender was ugly as all hell but intact. The seat was fine. However, the rear section and the front fairing were a different story.

The rear section came out the box in trailing one of the rear turn signals. It had been sheared off and the lens was broken beyond salvage. I was a little surprised to find that the turn signals had not been removed prior to shipping. They are a obvious fragile point when left attached. I was also surprised to find no packing around the tail section in the box. The front corners had extra padding, the signal lamps were individually bubble wrapped but here was nothing to protect the contents from side impacts other than a single layer of bubble wrap. On top of removing the signal lamps I would have placed foam or inflatable packing between the box and the tail section - much as I have done in the past when sending out fiberglass parts.

The front fairing was also shipped with turn signals attached, although the mirrors were removed and wrapped desperately. There was impact damage on the rear of the left side behind the turn signal that extended almost half an inch into the cloth. On the right side the pointed protrusion behind the mirror had been hit hard enough to fracture all the way through the cloth and gel on both sides. The front fairing was described as being "in great condition" . . .and the part I unwrapped was well short of this. Again, fragile parts were left attached (windscreen, turn signals) and there was no packing other than the single layer of bubble wrap.

The parts have been returned as "damaged, refused" after an inspection by Fedex claims/security.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this guy is going to try to eBay these parts again. I hope that anyone finding them listed will find my experience useful. I have clear photos of the damage should they be of interest. I would caution my fellow BWBers to ask this seller lots of questions about damage, shipping and handling.

YMMV . . .hope this saves some drama/trauma for someone here.

Yikes !

I've got some body work that is going on ebay in the near future , once I sell a few other smaller items and get that out of the way. The body work I do have , some new , some used , is in original packaging which I found to be well done . Good thing I've saved all those boxes.

I wish someone would just come over here and buy all of it , saving a bunch of greif.

Don, sorry to hear the parts were so damaged and beat up in shipping and the guy didn't use the money he charged for shipping to actually cover the cost of packaging. He did charge more than enough to do the job right. I was local to the auction and was going to do a local pick. It looked like a decent set of body work for a foundation for new paint.

Damn, that sucks Don. I think that was how my deep lids ending up getting cracked (the ones you have now). Some people are amazingly stupid at times.

I do not think I ever saw them on ebay. If I did I would have been bidding on them as well.
