Hey question about this exhaust. If anybody has this exhaust can, How many diffuser discs are you guys running and what altitude are you guys using these at. I live pretty high in the mountains here and the air gets real thin up here! I know that the ecm compensates for this but i would like to know, Whats good down there doesn't mean its good up here. I had this little kawasaki ninja 250 i used for commuting and it was carbed and it would not stay running if i went up 1500 ft or above.

I had this Vance and Hines carbon fiber can and it made my bike so dam torquey i couldn't hardly keep the front tire down MAN I LOVED THAT CAN!!!
I am running all the discs that i have 12 and i want to take out half of them and see what happens!

Preybird -- You want to run all the discs you can fit or afford -- Take a look at the performance graphs on the NRHS site. I'm not sure how many discs I am running but I recall it's as many as you can run with the stock length screws -- to run more you need to buy a kit that includes longer screws. My FI'ed 2000 S3 dynoed 93hp at the NHRS shop, and the altitude there is around 5500 ft -- I've ridden all over the rockies -- including a couple of runs up some 14ers and she always runs strong thru the whole power range. At any rate taking discs out won't increase performance -- although it sounds backwards adding discs lets it flow better.

There is also an option of an open end cap. I'm running 13 disc and the performance is on par with the SS2R that it replaced.

More discs = better flow, and more noise.

Keep a close eye on the screw the holds the canister inside the muffler. If this ONE screw works loose or shears off, the canister will slide towards the back of the muffler and block off flow.

I used 18 discs at one time (need the extended screws to run it, if I recall).

The only muffler that I have found that's of any decent quality is the OEM race muffler.

Ok i got the open end cap instead of the 12 more disks on al ligton's recommendation and all i can say is 12 disks+ the open end cap= SWEET-LOUD-POWER. This pipe now feels like my old vance & hines carbon fiber can. I gunned the throttle and the front tire was skipping on the ground and i was leaning on the front to keep it down WOW this open ended cap totally brought back all my lost power when i switched to the super trap.

Add disks. You'll get a deeper sound, not quite as "ratty" on acceleration, and apparently a little more power.
